Desperation in Haiti-(debate!)

As you may or may not have already heard, four hurricanes have swept across the small country of Haiti recently, killing a total of 341 people.

The towns have no access to clean water and are left in a terrible state. The U.S. Coast Guard has begun suppying aid to Haiti.

Do you think that sending supplies such as food and water is enough to help Haiti? Should the U.S. take more action or just send a few supplies and leave the devistated country to recuperate on it's own? Reply with your thoughts.

i think that it isnt really just the responsibility of the US to take care of Haiti, where are all of the southern american countries whenever these things happen? why is it always the united states responibility? sure water and food is enough, if more is provided, they will become dependent on our resources, costing us even more for something that is only going to hurt Haiti

i believe sending such aid as food and water to Haiti will be a great help to their people and no further action is necessary. I believe in the U.S. right know we have alot on our plate to begin with, not trying to be self centered i just believe that as the U.S. we have always played the mother figure to third world countries helping them in any way we can. I believe that we will continue this role, however there is not much else we can due considering the way our economy is right now.

i think other countries, not only the us should give aid to haiti. it is everyones responsibility to help other nations out. i also think food and water are enough, if it is absolutley necessary we may go in and help clean/build up homes. after all, they are an extrememly poor nation.

I believe help should be sent, but like in the case of a few countries in Africa, we shouldn't send too much help that would inherently cause an unhealthy dependence. But such a limit as that would be hard to come by. One does not know the exact limit of help that wouldn't cause such dependence.

We can argue that any form of help is good, regardless of how much, but it can often be dangerous.

I think that if a country can't support itself economically or socially they shouldn't get aid. They can't just rely on other countries for aid. Obviously theres too many people living there, their population needs to be culled or wiped out until they can support their own country. Social Darwinism at its finest.

That's not the nicest thing to suggest.

i would agree with drew that is definatly not the way to go about things. imagine if that was how everyone looked at the world like that how much more poverty would there be? how much more death and disease?? i believe we do the right thing in sending aid to those who need it, its part of what this country is about. And i do believe we should aid Haiti in there time of need. Hurricanes can be and are very dangerous to human life, and its something we cant control
