Bluemangroup-Australia licenses human embryo cloning

The Sydney IVF (in vitro fetilization firm) has access to 7200 human eggs.  The Australian government has issued a license that scientists will use the cloned embryos to obtain stem cells.  Human cloning for reproduction is banned and the scientists will be closely monitored.  The farthest the embryo can go is the blastocyst stage-a stage when the embryo has not yet implanted itself into the womb.  The stem cells obtained will give scientists the opportunity to test drugs that could provide answers to diseases such as Huntingtons and Parkinsons and produce body tissue that matches patients in need.

Do you agree with Australia's plan of research?  And do you think other countries should allow this?

i believe this is a very contraversial issue and many people will have different views, but i believe this type of research could prove vital if cures are found for those diseases....

i think it's great that Australia's doing this if you already have the eggs, why not use them? i am against abortion, though, so my first priority is to save the baby, but if they've already destroyed one human life why not use it to help out another?

so, they are making some kind of a human tissue in order to test drugs on them, because there is a law against animal testing. Why, if they aren't developed yet - it's a very good idea. scientists can do so much more, having such an opportunity.

i think that this is a large step forward for mordern science, and should be pursued to the fullest extent

I also believe it should be used to create a major break through using stem cell research. It also seems to be more humane considering the embryo's are in such an early stage.

i think this is such a great idea..if its just an egg and has not actualy become life, then i think this is such a good idea to save lives and cure diseases. Definitely a step in the right direction, i believe.

I think that this is an incredible breakthrough. I think that other scientifically developed countries should be taking a step in the same direction. We are reaching the plateau of animal testing.

Religiously, i know its very controversial and morally wrong, but often times research like this can benefit greatly.

But one thing that must be taken into account is that over time this research will prove weak. When the marginal cost outways the marginal benefit, research like this must end.

My feelings for this issue are very indifferent.

But then again, these eggs have the chance to become like you or me.

ahh, i hate being in the middle on issues.

Gah! I think this is pretty awesome and we should totally do it here, but meh probably wont happen for a while and its cool that they're doing it in the early stages so it doesnt offend i guess..

i think this is a fantastic breakthrough in which mankind should indulge itself in

sure this is a shaky topic but the fact is that this research could save lives in the end

however the means in which these cells are obtained is rather worrisome

i guess im in the middle on this topic with drew

its lame i know

but i just dont know if the ends justify the means
which is essentially the excuse of every tyrant the world has ever seen

i think its an awesome idea...if it might help disease, i think everyone should be for it.

well if it helps solve medical problems and is more efficient we could really use it to our advantage...althhough i dont know if its a good thing to be discovering, its creepy what technology we come up with now adays

I disagree, if we we're ment to have clones we would. There are other ways to help those in need.

No i don't! I don't feel that we need to clone humans for research purposes. Scientists are crossing a moral line right there. Why not just research adult stem cells and other studies that don't involve embryos? (One of the reasons I like McCain because he is against cloning embryos!)

i think that they should allow it. but only to a certain point. and not to let the researchers get out of control and actually creating a CLONEE.

To me it sounds like they are really starting to make breakthroughs and i really encourage what they are doing.
