"Smart" Alcohol Ban In Noumea

Third Weekend For 'Smart' Alcohol Ban In Noumea

A ban on the sale of alcohol for consumers in New Caledonia's capital Nouméa and its suburbs will go on this weekend for a third consecutive week The measure was first introduced in New Caledonia's capital Nouméa and its close suburbs from Friday September 26, at 7p.m. until Sunday September 28, at midnight, on an experimental basis.

The measure mainly aims at assessing the effectiveness of an alcohol ban to reduce the number of crimes committed in the capital and its suburbs, mostly as a result of open-air drinking sessions by youths.

Does this ban seem effective?  Will the youth rebel?

i think this is okay on a strictly experimental basis. Prohibition doesn't work though: the 20's, bootlegging, etc. it just ends up causing more crime then it's supposed to solve. Noumea has a right to give it a try though, you never know what might happen.

yeah i suppose it's ok to try. but if it goes on too long, not just the youth will rebel. Much of the community will rebel as well.

I think this plan has potential. Its good for the society that they live in, especially if this has been goin on for awhile, you have to stop it somehow.

I think it's useless to ban alcohol. well, because some teenagers will do what you don't allowed them to do. This policy encourages the latent crimes.

it wont work
history has proven that prohibition doesnt work and that it will just lead to more problems

but let them experiment if they feel compelled to do so

Let them experiment and who knows, maybe they'll find a way to make prohibition work. I doubt it but you never know.

I don't think it will work.. if anything I think it would increase crime just as it did in the past

i believe experimentally this is ok, but it will never work if it becomes a law, people will find away around it just like prohibition times in the US

I think it might work at first, but later people will find ways to get it anyway

this reminds me of back in 1923 when i was doing whiskey runs in a flatbed from canada, they will still get it, trust me, and they will do just about anything to get it, so they will be in turn commiting even more crimes to robbing and vandalizing as well as break-ins, tresspassing, and the actual consumption of the alcohol!
