So Much Spin, You'd Think It Was A Tornado... [DEBATE!]

In the most recent presidential debate on Tuesday both McCain and Obama made statements that were misleading and some that were treacherously close to outright lies. According to MSNBC, McCain made 6 such statements while Obama made 4; on issues such as the economy, healthcare, earmarks, taxes, Iraq spending, and questionable ties.

Since both candidates are apparently taking part in this wretched behavior, do you feel this might...
1.dishearten voters on both sides

and

2.take away from the prestige of the president if they believe he got there by being disingenuous

i believe this will if anything hurt obama more then McCain, even though McCain had more outrageous statements, more older people are skeptical of Obama's policies rather then mccains. If Obama does get elected president i think this might tarnish his presidency if he is not able to obtain these goals, however i think McCain won't have that much problem with these statements.

I think that this is all politics. The statements that are said are the basis of attacking your opponent during a campaign. Personally, I think that politicians have been stretching the truth since it all began. I can't say I'm shocked that they do all they can to make themselves appear the best man for the job.

i think it is unprofessional for both candiates to have that kind of behavior, yes they are in a compition but i think they should be mature about it

this isnt shocking. Its lame that candidates need to put down one another to make themselves look better. that shouldn't be the case at all. I think when one candidate says something bad about the other, it does more damage to their appearance.

I really dont see this de-heartening any voters to vote for one side or the other, this is very common in debates and such when two politicians are attacking each other. Its a part of politics and at times its been show to be vital to a campagin winning over voters. As bad as that may seem, its a tactic that has been used by most if not all candidates for president.

It is quite sad that lies and politics seem to go hand-in-hand in todays society. People should be outraged and shocked and feel betrayed, but they just dont anymore because they are so use to it.

Most politicians lie, it's a tactic.. How many presidents have kept ALL of their promises?

I want them to tell me the truth. All politicians rip each other for telling lies, but when it's them under the microscope, they reach into their bags of lies and blindly give us an answer. If one candidate was completely honest, I would vote for them without a dout.

i guess its just safe to say this is just the way politicians are and this is what they have to do to get elected
sure its lame that these things have to happen
but the fact is that what they do during their presidency is what defines them not what they say

the thing is if they told you the truth and exactly what you wanted to hear they would be lying anyway... it would be almost absolutely impossible for someone to get elected president, with them telling us everything truthfully. Most politicians try to find that happy medium to find those voters who are undecided and sway them in their direction. its not necessarily that they are lying, but shading the truth. When they say something its not 100% a complete lie but mostly an exaggeration of the truth, or a down grading of the truth...

lying comes with politics..
we just need to decide wether we can believe whom keep their promises and cant...

I don't think this will dishearten any voters. Politicians have lied since the begining of government. People are used to it, lies are just another part of politics.
