The Nook - Fighting in the Congo

Recent fighting in Eastern Congo has driven 200,000 people from their homes. This adds up to a total of 2 million people since 2007. The warlord Laurent Nkunda continues to fight militia groups and the army. The World Food Program is having trouble feeding the 2 million refugees. They are short 33,000 tons of food and needs $46 million in donations to make up for it.

Should the U.S. try and stop the fighting and give aid to the refugees?
Will you donate money to the starving refugees?

I do think we should give aid to the refugees through organizations like the peace corps. As for the fighting, we don't have any availiable military to send into another country to provide assistance in fighting currently. maybe if we were able, we could help to fight.

I am game for helping any country in distress, but at this current moment, where our economy is not doing the best at its ability, i don't think it's the perfect time.

The market dropped 500 points today.... Eekk..

BUT!!! if i have money, which is almost never, i would be game in helping those in need, like them Congans.

i don't realy think we have the military to go over there right now. we are dealing with the middle east problem and thats big enough as is.

Our country isn't in the best financial state to be giving aid right now. As for military help, even if we had availible troops to send I'm not sure how much good it would do. Even if we killed Nkunda and his rebel group, as soon as we left another warlord would take his place and the killing would continue.

Aid is lovely. If we can handle it. I don't think its specifically the United State's job, I think it should be the responsibility of the United Nations.
