Nebraska's legislature will convene to set an age limit on state's "safe haven" law. The law is intended so parents can drop off infants at hospitals without being prosecuted. But this year, 34 children have been dropped off, not one has been an infant, and 28 have been 10-years-old or older. The Governor has said "Please don't bring your children to Nebraska".
Do you think this law is even a good idea? What changes do you think should be made? i.e. age limit
i think it's really sad that people wouldn't want their children, especially at an older age. people should be decent and sensible enough to take them to orphanages or places where they can be transferred to foster homes/adoption agencies. i feel bad for the children just left on the street or in random places far from cities, because if parents are willing to do this to they're unwanted children you know they're doing worse.
hahahahhaha thats histarical, and tragic. I don't believe this is a good law because then people can just get rid of their responsibilities, i don't like the idea one bit.
I dont like that idea but i do like how here in california (im pretty sure) that if the baby is like within two days old you can drop it off at a police station i think thats good because of people who think they need to resort to throwing their babies in like dumpsters or whatever to get rid of them so yeah
There was one case where parents dropped off their 17 year old daughter because they couldnt afford to support her. They are also having problems with people from out of state participating.
That's horrible. There should be a law that if the children have some sense of accountability and maturity, they should prosecute the parents for abondoning their children.

this is really sad for the kids. there should definitely be an age limit so that someone like a teenage mother who can't support their child can drop them off a few days after the birth. what is this saying about American parents, though, that they'll just abandon their half-raised children like that?
I'm sure this law was made with the intent of preventing "dumpster babies" but some how along the line something went wrong. I think the basic idea of the law is a good one, but adding an age limit is a definite must. It's sad that people would even think about taking advantage of the flaw in this law, let alone abandoning a 10-year-old child.
