In New Zealand, the Rugby World Cup tickets are predicted to reach up to 1400 dollars. Rugby World Cup Minister Murray McCully says "the knockout tickets (finals) will be well in excess of anything New Zealand has ever seen".
Pool play tickets will start at about 40 dollars while the finals will reach up to about 1400$ a piece. With 40 pool play games scheduled, the profits should be massive due to the popularity of Rugby in the area.
What do you think are the top 5 sports of the WORLD? (In order from most to least popular)
Do sports fans sometimes go a little too far?
What impact do events such as the Olympics, or in this case the Rugby World Cup, have on the economy of the hosting nation?
Yes, I believe there are definitely fans that use sporting events as a reason to get drunk and rowdy. Thats more of a reflection on them than the sport. As far as $1400 for a game, I mean if you got the cash...
It seems like a good deal to me. Lotsa revenue from tourism.
and yeah maybe a little but if you love rugby and you have the money to spend, go for it. I would say it probably helps the economy right? because of all the money people spend?
i totally think that fans get crazy, shoot, i get crazy when i watch my fav sports at home (basket ball and soccer) it makes it a little better by going crazy :]
i i think i will help the countries economy because it is bring in tourist, and tourist bring money with them. i would think they would want to spend it, to remember they amazing time in New Zealand.
I don't think sports fans go to far. Especially when it comes to international events like the World Cup. I would pay $2000 to watch the US in the finals...unfortunately I will never be able to do that.
I don't think sports fans go too far. A lot of fans yell out you suck or something like that and do you really think the athlete gets affecte by those comments. but when fans attack like somebody's family then it goes too far.
I thinkg it has a great affect on the country the only setback is that sometimes they have to build a new staduim but it is worth it with all the tourism and the attraction.
and i think the craziness of the fans sometimes makes the game that much better i personally love booing derek jeter and A-rod whenever they play the angels
but sometimes people do go a little far in thier drunken stupors.
nonetheless i think events such as the World Cup and the Olympics are awesome both for the hosting nation and the viewers such as myself

I will say that fans in South America take soccer a little to seriously when they riot because they didn't like the referee's call that costed them the game.
sometimes sports fans go too far when other people get hurt, but for the most part in America at least people will jeer, but they're pretty well-behaved
As far as the crazy fans, I guess as long as no one uses witchcraft... :)

the only places where fans get really out of hand are at soccer games in mexico, south america, and Ireland. They tend to riot when their team loses or sometimes even when they win, some fields actually have to be fenced in to protect the players
