A Palestinian military court sentenced a Gaza strip resident to hanging on Tuesday for alleged security cooperation with Israel. 34-year-old Mohammed Ali Saidam has admitted to receiving training from Israeli military camps and he is accused of "plotting and cooperating with the Zionist enemy." Joe Stork of the Human Right's Watch, based in New York, said "it's deeply disturbing that Palestinian courts have resumed issuing death sentences at a time when the rest of world is moving toward abolishing capital punishment."
What do you think would be a just punishment in this circumstance? Do you think that capital punishment is ever justifiable?
i think if in fact he is commiting treason against his country, then the country can use captial punishment, if they so choose. It used to be much worse with the drawn and quatered method. and yes capital punishment is justifiable, becasue it has shown to deter crime from happening, even if it is severe.
What he did doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but I know it is to his country. If it is treason to them, then he must be punished. But it is sad to see him die for this, but again, he has to be responsible for his decisions and actions.
i think he should be punished, what he did was wrong, but they shouldn't use capital punishment. i hate the idea of capital punishment for any reason or anybody.

one argument against the death penalty is that it is very expensive and painful. Why can't we develop a more cost and pain efficient way to deal with people? Like putting them in a vacuum chamber, or follow the fad of beheadings and bring back the guillotine.
I think because he commited treason, it's up to his country to choose how they think they need to punish him. I also believe that the death penalty is justifiable but only when the crime is extremely severe.
I hate the idea of capital punishment. I think its ridiculous to punish someone for killing by killing them and attempt to show everyone that killing is wrong. And the fact that the United States is the only non third world country that still uses capital punishment. As far as Pakistan, I don't think that capital punishment is the way but in a third world country its very common.

I see your point about the hypocracy in the idea, but I don't think it is okay to say "you killed your wife and children, so we're going to let you sit in a cell, eat, read, watch tv, exercise and wait for a parole date."
I don't see the point of keeping the scum of the earth alive. When we get a chance to clean the streets of these people we should take that oppurtunity.

^^ If your being tried for capital punishment, the only other option is life with out parole..The would be in jail for the rest of their life
I know, but if there is no death penalty then life without parole won't be the only option. We have it set that for certain crimes you can get the death penalty, if we take it away, will there only be life without parole, or more instances of including a parole date?
