4yr old Shoots Babysitter

A four year old Ohio boy is under investigation after shooting his eighteen year old baby sitter, Nathan Beavers, with a shotgun. Witnesses say that the boy was angry with Beavers, when he allegedly step on the little boys foot. The boy then decided to go into the closet and retrieve a shotgun inside and fired at Beaver. Nathan Beavers was treated for minor wounds in his arm and side. The four year old hasnt been officially charged, but the investigation is still ongoing.

What should be the laws for gun control?
Should a gun be that accessible to anyone in the household?
How do you think this could have been prevented?

Should have had the guns locked up in a gun cabinet.

i think the guns are supposed to be on some kind of safety lock devices.
the kid probably watched too much movies and tv shows.

i watched this story on the news this morning. i cant believe a four year old knew how to load the gun and everything. kids are so sensitive to pain so he wanted to hurt the person back i guess. what do the parents think? id like to know. the parents couldve hid the gun and put it where a child cant get ahold of it. ...irresponsible people...

How does a four year old handle a shotgun?
I would imagine that kid hurts pretty badly.

The parents should get in trouble for having a shotgun so readily availible for a four year old to get. I'm also surprised that a four year old could handle a shotgun. I wonder if it was already loaded, or did he load it himself?

i don't think that when you have small children you should have shotguns laying around the house, i personally believe thats just a matter of bad parenting.

i think guns should be limited. i still remembered how i felt when i heard gun shoots this new year's eve...that was horrible, literally, that was creepy!

to clarify, the article doesnt mention anything about any type of mental disability in the boy, just anger

the gun should not be accessible to just anyone in the house hold.
i also think that not just anyone should be able to get guns because
not everyone is responsible enough to have one. people get careless.

&& to say he is autistic is not the right statement because although autism
is pretty common, the article did not mention the child having autism and he did not have characteristics of autism.

Why was the gun so easy for get? and how did he know where to find it? The parents are responsible for the incident in my opinion.

i think guns are a necessary evil in certain circumstances
if you live in a bad neighborhood for example

but no matter the circumstance if you own a firearm it should be put on safety, unloaded, and locked up

like i said earlier this year
my grandfather was a freak about guns

but he was always put safety first
for example he always had the weapons disassembled in a type of locked cabinet that he made specifically for guns

the in side was lined with foam locked with a 5 digit combination and steel plated

my grandfather was also incredibly overprotective of his weapons

and allie that autism reference was really offensive
did you even read the article?

like the comments above, how can a 4 year old even handle a gun, without severly hurting himself? This story is crazy, but i think the little boy has not a clue what he did, but someone should definetly show the child wrong from right. It sound like im giving this kid a slap on the wrist, but he is only 4 years old, and i think the parents should be accountable.

where kids cant get to them

and how does a 4 year old know how to handle a gun anyways?!

Owning a firearm inherits certain responsibilities. They should be kept in a locked cabintet/safe and should be unloaded when at home. We keep our guns in a 800 pound safe and my dad and I are the only ones with the combination.

i agree with chris that guns are a necessary evil in society. with that said there are many responsibilities that come along with that, one of which is keeping the gun safely kept

not trying to be offensive. and yeah, actually i did. it didn't say much more than was originally posted. the reason i said this is becuase usually children who are autistic or have some other sort of disability whether learning or developmental have a tendency to act out in violent and irrational ways. im not stupid or just saying it to be like "YEAH HES PROBABLY RETARTED OR SOMETHING LOLLL," (yeah i know that wasn't so nice, but im trying to prove my point) i know what im talking about. my mom deals with learning disabled and autistic children everyday and tells stories about these kinds of things.

thanks.

the gun was so easily accessed.. thats sad and ridiulous.. wow
but guns should be allowed with the proper licence and what not
and theyre should be certain regulations that come with that such as where the weapons are kept and if theyre loaded and all the safty features as well..

I think the point that Chris was trying to make is that since the article says nothing about the child being autistic, then it is unfair to assume that he had autism since that would be a pretty big issue in a case such as this.

Also, people with autism are not only traditionally shy, but are easily disturbed by loud noises, and I don't think that the noise of firing a shotgun would be exactly what a person affected with autism would be looking for.

I think that maybe the kid was just angry.

Most children do go through temper problems in their youth. All too often they get frustrated over small issues, and in some unfortunate cases, they act in violence, sometimes mimicking what they have seen on TV.

There was this one time where my brother (who was a youngster at the time) ran around the house with a knife threatening my sister, supposedly inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. By the sounds of this, it sounds hilarious, but it really was a dangerous situation.

So was it my parents fault? Unintentionally it could have been. What did they do afterwards? They banned TMNT from our house and made sure our kitchen knives were hidden. A pretty redeeming act, I'll say.

So in the end, I was deprived of TMNT in my childhood, only to realize that i was protected from the brain-washing processes of TMNT by my parents.

So moral of the story, don't go crazy over Pizza Time.

Anywho, How did the lady only escape with minor injuries?

usually you don't load a gun and just leave it there for your 4 year old to grab a hold of it.

KIDS do the darnest things!

The gun should have been locked away somewhere a 4 year old couldn't get to it. I think the parents should get some sort of punishment for just letting a gun lay around like that so that the 4 year old could shoot the babysitter. pretty sad though....

only question i have is how irresponsible do you have to be to leave a gun where a four year old could access it?

first i think that kid needs to seriously be check out psychologically.  if he runs to a gun because someone stepped on his foot then theres something wrong with him and possibily how the parents are raising him.  ithink his parents should also be held responsible because they didn't lock up the gun away from the four-year-old.

u are right that he may have autism.....mybrother has autism so i know a thing or two.....but there are different psychological disorders that he could have or he could just be a 4-year old with a temper.

in respones to all the talk of mental disabilities, i think in a case this large, that if the child had some sort of disorder, then it would be known, that isnt something they would keep hidden, i believe the kid just had a temper and went off in rage. lots of kids have anger issues since they do not yet understand how to vent, so the pent up until they cant anymore.

I think this is negligence on the parents part. The gun should have been locked, and shouldn't have been loaded. Not only is this the law, but it's just common sense.

i think people have the right to have guns around the house for there protection but they should never be loaded and should be in secure places so children cant get there hands on it

Myabe the kid thought it was a toy gun. Could it also have been the media that influenced him? Maybe he saw somewhere on tv that you should respond by shooting someone when soembody steps on your foot.
