Teen gunman kills 16 in German shooting spree

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/03/11/germany.school.shooting/index.html

  • In Germany a 17 year old boy dressed in military gear went on a shooting spree at his old school.
  • He broke into the school went into a classroom and just started shooting around him, he then left the building and fled on foot.
  • 3 teachers and ten students were killed also 3 other people outside of the school were killed as he was fleeing.
  • He also injured some police men as they tried to arrest him, he ended up being killed by police men shooting him down

What are your thoughts on this issue??

wow thats so bad, especially how many people were killed and the fact that this guy was 17
I am guessing something drove him to do this.
Lately there hav been alot of crime because people have been looking at influences.

This dosent really have to do with this article but it shows how crazy people can get. I read up on a story about a guy in Belgium who dressed and painted his face just like the Joker. Then he ran around the streets of his town and stabbed anybody in sight and then later killed himself.

i think its a sad story because all these innocent people got killed/injured and glad he didnt get away with it...it would have been interesting to see his motivation or reasoning for this...like the military gear, why the highschool, why that particular classroom.....

this article is sad..i kind of wish they didnt kill the guy because i want to hear what he has to say about it.. i always wonder that kind of stuff like what made them do that and why..but he should be dead..what he did was really wrong. but the kid obivously had problems..or is crazy..same thing. if i went to school with the kid and saw him like that i would have freaked out.

Thats sad. He probably had something wrong with him; thats all you can really say. Its probably wierd for the officer that shot him down too. Shooting a kid.... i wouldnt be able to sleep on that.

I was watching the news this morning when they were first covering it[at 430]. According to BBC:

TIM KRETSCHMER[the shooter]:

Left Albertville school last year after passing exams
Officials said he was an ordinary pupil who had received good reports from school
German media reported he had begun an apprenticeship
Lived in the village of Leutenbach
A keen table-tennis player, who aspired to become professional

So, obviously he didn't seem 'weird' or like an 'outcast' in any way...

some people just cant find ways to channel their emotions. other people are just plain crazy. like a year ago some guy went into his office building with a gun and a sword and killed 7 of his co-workers because they were "vampires" and he was a "vampire slayer". its pretty sad that even schools aren't too safe anymore.

Reading some of the comments to the article on CNN some are blaming the parents or video games/media for the shooting.

I wonder what could make a person do something like this, yes it is wrong, but there has to be a very serious reason why. It's sad that a 16 year old kid would go on a huge killing spree like that

I think that this is extremey sad. I t makes me sad when people hurt other people for no reason. It also makes me sad when police men have to kill the person in order to keep them under control. :( And if it was his old school, then was it an elementary school? he was only 17. this is so sad :(

This is sad..not really surprising though. It happens often. It's really scary that when people get angry..or feel like they have no one, they resort to killing. I would hate for something like this to ever happen at eldo. You never know..we should always be alert. There are crazy people everywhere!

I read a follow up article on this and it said his dad had kept a lot of guns in the house:

Police raided his parents' home later and found they had a collection of 14 guns.

The pistol used in the killing was part of the father's collection, authorities said. German gun laws are fairly restrictive and require owners to control access to them.

Rech said the guns were legally owned by Kretschmer's father who is a member of a gun club.

And now they are trying to figure out if he posted something on a website about the attack he was going to make:

And here is a list of all kinds of shootings that have happened over the years:

That's the disturbing thing, even the most socially normal people can snap
