Sacramento Woman Celebrates 112th Birthday!!

http://www.kcra.com/cnn-news/18970727/detail.html

The Sacramento resident was born in Georgia in 1897 and moved to Sacramento when she was 85. That was in the early 1980s.

Muhammed was joined Thursday in a celebration at Creekside Village Apartments by her granddaughter, Gitona Muhammed, great-granddaughter Najmah Muhammed and friends.

"One hundred and twelve tomorrow, and I'm thankful to allow that to stand on my feet," Muhammed said. "I hope you live as long as I have."

Gitona Muhammed said her grandmother enjoys bingo, plants and nice jewelry.

Muhammed has seen a broader swath of American history than most: There have been 20 presidents in her lifetime. Women didn't gain the right to vote until she was in her mid-20s, and she's lived through a number of military conflicts, including the Spanish-American War. Jazz gained in popularity while she was in her youth, and the television hadn't yet been invented -- and the Internet certainly wasn't around.

Would you want to live to be 112 years old ?

it's absolutely amazing to hear about people who live to be this old.  It's weird to think that she has lived through half of our nation's history and witness all those things.  Do i want to live to be 112? No way.  But it makes me wonder - how did she do that?!

That is a LONG life to live I don't know if I ever want to live to be that old. It is cool though that someone has lived to be past the age of 110 though.

i think it would be really cool to be 112 if you can still function normally. it seems like this woman is getting along fine so it is a great situation for her.

i dont know if i would want to be that old. pro: you get to see a lot of things change, you get to meet your great grandchildren and your great great grandchildren...con: health issues that come with old age, having to outlive the people you grew up and grew old with. i think if i was healthy and active and had a hobby to keep me from sitting around bored all the time, i wouldnt mind living for 112 years.

I think as long as someone has a purpose to live for life will continue to be worth living regardless of their age. I personally don't want to rely on wheelchairs and canes to walk but even I have to I think I could still find life worth living especially if my wife was still alive and I had grand children. It's awesome she's still able to stand on her own two feet even at her age.
