Downsized Dances

There was an interesting article in the LA Times on Saturday about how many teens are having to scale back their Prom plans in response to economic hard times:

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-prom25-2009apr25,0,1991197.story

As many of you begin preparing for Prom festivities yourselves, do you feel like this is true of you and/or your friends?  What kind of changes (if any) are you noticing this year in terms of transportation, dinner, attire, attendance, anything?!

i hav noticed that it seems like people are being less extravagant which i find to be a good thing. although money is meant to be enjoyed, you also have to be responsible with it and i think it makes teens choose what they really want out of life. do they want to blow their money on one night? or do they want to enjoy several nights of fun? its really a true life analogy ad test in my opinion

Well for me I know I could ask a girl but there is more then just the drama I am worried about. I am buying a car, suit, food, e.t.c. within the next few weeks so having to pay for even more is just not in my budget. To answer your question yes I am cutting back but then again i don't like dances and much rather has a night out with my buddies and my girl doing a bon fire or something.

It's going to be stag night for me :)

its true that dances are expensive, and im going to 2 proms this year, what ive noticed is me not asking my parents for any money really. i just feel bad expecting them to pay for both so i dont even bother asking. im just going to cut back and do stuff myself not pay to get everything done. alot of my friends arent spending alot of money on dresses, dinner, make up or little things like that. i think alot of people are being more aware on the money for dances.

Well to save money I am riding by myself in a limo while my date walks to the prom. It's only the smartest most eco-friendly idea of the century.

I've heard a few people say that they are choosing between prom and grad night...I think its sad that people are having to choose because both are memorable events for seniors, but both are pretty expensive. You cant have everything, though. Especially right now.
