Suffering from Senioritis? Try Early College instead?

Along with the Prom story, Saturday's LA Times also featured an article about "greenshirts" - high school seniors who have athletic aspirations at the collegiate level who graduate HS early so that they can join their future college team for spring practices.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-usc-ucla-greenshirts25-2009apr25,0,6999838.story

Do you think this is a good idea?  Does it present an extra and unnecessary injury risk to the student involved?  Does it leave the student without any sort of closure on their HS experience since they're missing out on rites of passage like graduation?  Do you wish you had (seniors) or could (juniors and sophs) finish HS early? Should greenshirting be allowed by the NCAA?

well Matt Barkley is a beast trying to win the most coveted college QB job in the nation but he lost out to Orange Lutheran's Aaron Corp. it's a good idea, most of the freshman are trying to get in the spring practice with most of the returning football squad who have an unfair advantage of being in football shape over people who have to wait till summer sessions to start. I particularly don't care and feel I need to get out of school so quickly so it's not an issue for me.  And green shirting should be allowed.  It allows incoming freshman to prepare for the football season with all the returning squad people.

its a really good idea for players trying to prepare for their college seasons early. it gives them valuble experience playing against higher levels of competition and i feel it makes them more ready for playing at the next level.

i think it should be able to be done because it would be our choice and yea maybe it would suck not to graduate with a big ceremony but as long as u finished people should be ok wit it

I think if the athletes are willing to miss graduation and the events that go with it, then they should be allowed to. It makes sense from the perspective of the team they are joining and playing sports in college is a great experience so they kind of make up for the high school stuff that they miss with the college stuff they are missing for.

If the athletic high school senior are willing to graduate early to join their collegiate colleagues, then they should be able to do so... provided that they don't really care about missing out on the rest of their high school experience.
