Final Feeback?

since we're so near the end of our time together, it seems opportune to do some reflection on this inaugural year of World Affairs.

any feedback from this semester?  your favorite topics?  stuff you loved?  stuff you hated?  other stuff we should do in the course?  would you take another similar course in college (lots of schools have global issues classes)?

THANKS TO YOU for a great semester and for your intense, copious, and wide-ranging online posts! You guys have definitely put the "discussion" in discussion board!! :)

As you journey onward, keep up your knowledge - read the newspaper, subscribe to a weekly newsmag, at least surf online for some current articles.  You are inheriting a global world, to be sure, and you will best contribute if you are INFORMED.  And get involved - I know lots of you think that it's not our government's place to solve the world's problems, but it is ALWAYS appropriate for PEOPLE to involve themselves in being agents of positive change!!!

Enjoy these last few days together, and have a great summer! :)Cav

this class was super fun. the laid back atmosphere and straight- forward work load made it an enjoyable class. maybe mrs cav should wire money into our bank accounts if we choose to keep using the discussion boards over the summer. oh yeah maybe a field trip for the next years students. and we never had the bake off we talked about. bummer, but o well.

I love the course. It should be manditory but people should speak up more often.

I am going to miss the discussion boards and all of the drama (debate) that happened on them!! I also liked all of the random stories that people would ost like the Darwin awards! haha. I liked this classs because it kept people in touch with what was happening around the world instead of just knowing what is going on in our little bubbles. I think I learned a lot from this class about the world and will miss it.

I loved the discussion boards!! It was so fun getting out my opinions this way.  I feel that by doing this, i can express what I think a lot better.  THe only thing that I didn't like about this class was finding articles.  Maybe cut down to 6 from your part of the world and 2 from another part.  But overall, i enjoyed listening to the debates and participating in them and finding out about really weird things people do.  web- high- five you guys! (another way i express my excitement)

It was cool that our discussions weren't very limited and that we were able to openly discuss all sorts of topics. Even though some discussions got a little heated, everybody was generally respectful towards each other so that was nice also. I would definitely recommend this class to any upcoming senior, just because the maturity level would have to be there..especially with some of the issues that we discussed this year. ha

This class was pretty laid back and i enjoyed it. This class gave us an oppertunity to voice our opinions and thoughts on certain subjects. Even though many of our opinions sometimes clashed with one another that is the point i think, to see how others viewpointsd differ from others.

ALWAYS KEEP AN OPEN MIND :]

This online discussion board is so fantastic! Not gonna lie.... I went on it at home sometimes :) I really enjoyed the presentations about health care, human traffiking etc.
but none of the things we did in class would have been effective if the students were so active. so THANKS TO YOU KIDS for such a great experience in this class :) and thank you Cav for creating a fun and exciting environment in which we felt comfortable to express our opinions

I suggest having a variety of assignments that allows the students to be active. I understand that doing current events are one of the best way to understand our world or a specific continent but if there were more activities (such as the presentations, except more fun?) it would prevent each week from becoming routine and the current events becoming tedious. And maybe even field trips?

One thing that I liked was the change of scenery: from the classroom, to the library, to the computer lab.

Another suggestion involves the seating arrangements.
I think if we moved all the seats to arrange a class circle it would make it easier for the speaker to address everyone and encourage more people to speak up, because it seems often times a discussion forms between a couple people which is good, but that allows others (especially those distanced away in the corners) to sort of distance themselves from the discussion and also makes them feel really part of the discussion. Of course, one problem with moving seats would be the time it would take to move the seats and then put them back but since we usually start class late and end early I dont think time would be too much of a problem. And another problem would be the tremendous labor involved with moving the seats but Im sure that wont be too much of an issue.

I really enjoyed this class and i hope that students will enroll in this class next year. The message boards are great ways to voice your opinions. Evem though there were some clashing of opinions, it shows that not everyone can agree and that is why there is so much debate in the world. I liked the articles because you have the chance to look at difrrent regions of the world and i think that if more people are aware of news, there will be more solutions.
