66-Year-Old Woman Gives Birth to 5-Pound Baby Boy

Elizabeth Adeney, 66, has become Britains oldest mother after giving birth to a baby boy weighing 5 pounds, 3 ounces.

Both are said to be doing "extremely well" following Tuesday's Caesarean section birth.

"Lizzie is absolutely thrilled, a friend of the new mother said. This is something she thought might never happen. She can't wait to get home and start her new life with her boy."

Adeney is the U.K.'s oldest mother by four years. Coming in a close second is Patti Farrant, who gave birth to her son, Jude, at the age of 62 three years ago.

Adeney traveled to the Ukraine for IVF treatments since clinics in Britain refuse to treat women over the age of 50.

What do you guys think about the fact that this lady will be 70 by the time her son is old enough to go to kindergarden? THATS LIKE MY GRANDMAS AGE!!!! How will this affect the little boy growing up?

I think it's a little twisted that by the time the child is in kindergarden, his mother will already be 70, but like the saying goes, age is just a number. And everyone woman deserves a chance to motherhood.

I think she has the right to be a mother, but even if she lives to be 90, her son will only be 24. She probably won't get to meet her grandchildren and she might not even be there to see her son get married. That's sad. She chose to do this though, so I'm sure she thought about that and decided that the years she will have with her son will outweigh the things she will miss.

I agree with Grace. Age is just a number. She chose to have this baby. She is an older woman but she has every right to have a child of her OWN, no matter what her age.

I don't think that is right for the babies sake! her mother will probably never be able to see her kid graduate or get married. And what happens if the mother dies when the child is still a minor where will the child go to live?? a foster home? that is not right for the childs sake! I think it will affect the childs life in the long run, I think it was selfish on her part she should have thought about this more.

I agree with Grace. Im glad everything went good with the baby though. I really dont think i would want a child at that age but who knows..
Im sure the little boy may get made fun of for having a realllly old mama. But then again..everyone gets made fun of for stupid things. thats how life is. you just have to
roll with the punches!

right..I mean this woman gave this boy a life. He should be able to grow old just like his mom and take advantage of the opportunity that his mother gave him.

OCTOMOM is selfish... This lady didnt have any children and can probably support it! I do think she has the right to have her own child. i definately do not want to miss out on that experience!!! But i do believe that she put the child in a funny spot. its not the ideal environment for a growing child. but who knows? maybe shell be the worlds greatest mom

I don't think we should judge about her age or how the kid is going to turn out.  if she wanted to have a child, that's her perogative(did i spell it right?).  she should just know what's she's getting into.  and yes, i would say the octomon situation is even worse.

I'm glad the baby came out ok. Hopefully the mother doesn't pass away before the child turns 18. I'd like to think he will grow to be very wise, as if he was raised by Gandalf haha.

did Menopause not affect this lady?  I just hope the kid came out healthy and not mentally disabled.

that's intense and cool that she had a baby this old. it's kinda sad that the kids gonna have fricken old parents, but just because it may hinder some things doesn't make it bad that she had this child.

it's a miracle, but it's sad that this lady had a kid at such an old age, she's not gonna be in his life for a long time.

yeah i think its a little unrealistic to have a baby when your that old. what kind of future are you creating for your kid? i mean thats great that everything went well. but soon the mom will need someone taking care of her, she cant be taking care of the kid.

Exacly! that is what I believe to I mean this kid is probably going to be taking care of his mom in high school when it should be the other way around.

menopause can be different for every woman, right?  but whatever, i still think age isn't and shouldn't be an issue about whether she had a baby or not.
