A referendum will be put to a vote in 2011 to see if the people of Southern Sudan want to become their own country and secede from Sudan.
Reasons for wanting to breakaway from Sudan -Have been in a civil war with Northern Sudan this war is the longest war that has been going on in Africa - People are very split because of the war and almost have their own identity as Southern Sudanese - If Sudan splits it could finally lead to the end of the war in Sudan

I think Southern Sudan should secede if it is in their best interests to do so, their people support it by a great majority, and they can come to a fair agreement with Northern Sudan about how the separation would take place.
I agree with Ruby. If the majority of the people agree to secession and they can at least lay out the framework of a (hopefully democratic) government, then by all means, they should secede.

I think they should try other means of resolving the war because when you split up a country , people get split up and also familys and brings a whole new world of problems so i dont think its a good idea and if they are at war now its not going to change just because there two different countries.
