Anti-Gay protesters crossed the line

I know everyone is sick of this but i think this crossed the line and is pretty interesting..

Anti-Gay protesters protested (try saying that 10 times fast) outside of the Sasha and Malia's (presidents daughters) school. The Group protesting is from the Westboro Baptist Church. On the churches website they refer the Obama children as "satanic spawn" of a "murderous bastard."
They got what they wanted, which was media coverage..atleast.
I should not even post this, because now I'm spreading their message further. I can't resist though. So tell me what you think:

Even though they had the right to be there, does this cross the line?

How do their supporters feel about them doing this?

Does this hurt them more than it helps them?

Even though I am against gay marriage, I think that is a little over board, but when we had the prop 8 rallys, I think the no people got very violent so it kinda works both ways, but just because they lost their cool, we should we should stay calm and not call the presidents inocent daughters names like that

My mom's friend was sayingg that the world is going to end on December 21, 2012 and that Oprah and Obama were going to be the anti-christ. That made me laugh..but what happened outside the girl's school is simply wrong. Everyone needs to leave Obama alone and leave gays alone. Really tho people??? Haven't you gotten tired of protestingg?? These children never did anything

Wow. no

That did cross the line. To attack the children is just wrong. I get it if you don't agree with the President but to say that the children are "satanic spawn" is just plain wrong. I think in the long run this will hurt them, because of the whole "pick on someone your own size". You don't go after children. Period. That's like the whole pro life people would kill other people who were for abortion. How pro life is that? And how is calling 2 little girls "satanic spawn" going to change anything in their favor?

Well, whether or not it crosses the line, they do have freedom of speech and can say what they want about Obama. It is a bit much though.

They may have crossed the line but they have the 1st Amendment to back them up.

Ok yes there is such a thing as the first ammendment but no it does not excuse hate crime, which is exactly what rallies like this lead to. People are allowed to voice their opinion but they need to keep it classy. I find it funny though becaue these people are completley contradicting themselves. It says that blasphemy is wrong in the bible... so tell me where does it say in the bible "god hates gays" "god is their enemy" Doesn't it say in the bible god is all forgiving, god doesn't hate etc. So it's really confusing to see this.

well there is the defamation law..which is a clause of the first amendment. What they are saying kinda goes against it. But these people have everything backwards, protesting at soldiers funerals holding up signs saying "thank God for dead soldiers" they are all messed up. and most of the church is his family members, somethings going on there. they are disgusting.

God basically NUKED a city full of gays. And yes, God is forgiving, but people seem to forget the other part. He forgives, but He also says that there will be consequences for those sins, regardless of whether he forgives you or not. And for those gays, the consequences of their sin was death. End of story.

Actually yes it does, they are merely voicing their hatred. I totally do not agree with them or condone what they say at all. I think they are way off. But in America we don't put people in jail for this and call it a hate crime, or do we? I as an american can say what I please, with or without class.

Greece? Rome? God didn't "nuke" them. And what about now? Let god smite me right now for being for the gays.

Conduction your opinions with out class leads only to violence. That's why Mrs. Cav expects us to handle ourselves with class on the boards because without it we are just yelling our points at people who wont or don't care to change.  It should be yuour personal standard to want to hold your self with class. Do you think our forefathers handled themselves like these people on any issues?

If you yell at someone make them feel unsafe, thats assult. It doesn't matter that you're voicing your opinion. in tht case you would be arrested. I believe if you argue or voice your opinon with class, it's much stronger than throwing out curse words and calling people "satanic spawn'.

Actually they did, its clearly stated in the history books provided at eldo. One house member was so enraged at the other, beat him on the head with his cane. He recovered but had permanent brain damage. Our forefathers were just as flawed as we are now. They even yelled at each other.

People don't seem to realize there are limitations to freedom of speech, especially against the president or any public officials/people. its called slander, and their is a clause that prohibits it.

Because gayness wasn't as rampant as it was in Sodom and Gomorrah. And God won't necessarily "smite" you because you support gays, but if you are gay, there will be consequences whether or not you are killed. And i would not go around asking God to smite you, you might get what you wish for.

So sodom and gamorah were destroyed. Well tell then why ancient greek and ancient rome were destroyed when COUNTLESS leaders and citizens based their culture on orgies and tons of sexual acts that you would consider "wrong".  Not to mention the bible was written by man and every church interprets it differently. People in general interpret the bible differently. Therefore no one really has the right answer.

My dad is a very christian man and doesn't support gays, and we were talking about muslims and he brought up a good point to me. He said i belive god is good, why would i believe in a religion where my god is asking me to kill? I turned around and said I also belive god is good, why would i want to believe in a religion where god hates or condems gays when he is suposedly all forgiving and all loving? I refuse to belive in a book that constantly contradicts itself.

I was just using those protestors reasoning (the bible) against them.

In Greece, men could take a boy and they would have sex. And I wasn't asking for him to smite me, I was trying to make a point. But quite honestly if God wants to smite people for being gay, I'm not on his side. :]

They are put in place for a reason. Its a good thing there are CERTAIN limitations. Or people could go around saying anything they wanted, the whole "don't shout fire in a theatre thing" is a main reason there are limitations as well..which is a smart idea.

As i said before, God forgives the gays, but there are consequences. And they had a chance to repent, but they were too gay to heed the warning. And if you want a book that contradicts itself, go read the Koran. And, if you think there are contradictions in the Bible, go talk to C.S. Lewis. He is much smarter than any of the others  in this class and guess what? He was an atheist and set out to search for contradictions in the Bible. He didn't find any contradictions and started to believe. Go read some of his books or something.

Yes it was, Ancient Rome and Greece were WELL known for being openly gay or bisexual. It plastered in their art work all across the cities and in their books. I would even argue that being gay or bisexual was even more rampant than sodom and gamorah. The only difference was that becuase the human body was adored and thought of as a beautiful work of art as apposed to tabboo it was more socially accepted.

In Greece, men could take a boy and they would have sex. And I wasn't asking for him to smite me, I was trying to make a point. But quite honestly if God wants to smite people for being gay, I'm not on his side. :]

"Let god smite me right now for being for the gays."

Sounds like you are asking for it.

God basically NUKED a city full of gays. And yes, God is forgiving, but people seem to forget the other part. He forgives, but He also says that there will be consequences for those sins, regardless of whether he forgives you or not. And for those gays, the consequences of their sin was death. End of story.

 Contradiction.

Actually yes it does, they are merely voicing their hatred. I totally do not agree with them or condone what they say at all. I think they are way off. But in America we don't put people in jail for this and call it a hate crime, or do we? I as an american can say what I please, with or without class.

If you yell at someone make them feel unsafe, thats assult. It doesn't matter that you're voicing your opinion. in tht case you would be arrested. I believe if you argue or voice your opinon with class, it's much stronger than throwing out curse words and calling people "satanic spawn'.

Well under the Obama regime I guess so, but this is America. Your right it is assault. But isn't that stupid? I could feel unsafe talking to you. Think about it.

If a guy starts yelling at me and starts making threats then I don't think it would be stupid to charge them with assult. If a person is talking to me about how a new movie or something, I dont think I could take them to court for assult.

You frighten me! I feel assaulted. Thats how easy it is...

Alright, take me to court. Let's see how that works out.

More of Ancient Rome (Roman Empire) but you know what happened to them when their soceity turned immoral.... they collapsed and thats why the Roman Empire no longer exists today. And no the Roman Empire is not Italy...

I never saidi was athiest, i just said i don't follow the bible word for word because it contradicts itself. And yes you have private messaged me bore to talk to me about how C.S. lewis is much smarter than i am but i my opinion C.S. lewis did not read the bible thuroughly.  I will read his book if you can read a book about how the bible DOES contradict itself.

Did you hear that the Post Office just recalled their latest stamps?
They had pictures of lawyers on them ... and people couldn't figure out which side to spit on.

Ahh but there's the thing: the Bible does not contradict itself. And i forget the exact amount of time C.S. Lewis spent researching and reading the Bible, but i believe it was some thing like 2 years or more. And that is plenty of time to be nice and THOROUGH.

I guess it was their "right" to be there if they broke no laws, but this protest was definitely in poor taste.  I really don't see how the terrible insults against these children even had anything to do with the debate over gay marriage.
