Tawk Amongst Yourselves- YOU'LL give you a Tawpic

You guys are, alas for you, too young to have seen Coffee Talk with Linda Richman on SNL (Mike Myers) in its original form and get the topic reference, but it is one of the best bits they ever had...definitely worth a Google on your part!!

Anyway, what should we talk about when the camera crew comes?

The kid-without-a-gender?

The Presidential election?

Obama's Palestine comments?

One of our Global Roundtable issues? (literacy, water, etc.)?

Or.....?

I would really enjoy to talk about Obamas' comments in regards to the israeli-palestinian conflict, and also different global issues! :D

The Cost to End World Hunger

It's less than 1%

The United Nations has estimated the cost of ending world hunger at about $195 billion a year. Twenty-two countries have pledged to donate this money by contributing 0.7% -- less than 1% -- of national income to international aid, but the goal has yet to be reached. Five countries have already met the goal, while others are on target to meet it in a few years. Some, including the U.S., are lagging. If you'd like to encourage US lawmakers to work harder to donate the necessary funds, visit this page at Poverty.com and print a letter that you can send to your congressional represenatives, or use the letter as an example for your customized letter.

----------
I think it's interesting how we connect so many things to solving world hunger.
Like helping other countries by giving them Roads, and access to this food. How much would it cost to pave the world?

A mile of freeway through an urban area costs approximately $39 million, while a mile of freeway through a rural area costs approximately $8 million.

Bill gates has enough money to pave between 1250 - 6250 Miles of freeway

OR enough to pave 50,000 miles of asphalt roads

He would still have several billion left over, and I used the most expensive prices i could find to build the freeways, and tripled the road cost to compensate for the "remote location" cost.

Even better, if the 400 FORBES billionaires all donated 1 billion? or at least those that have over 2 billion?

We used to always try to make up our own topics in college - like "The beanie is neither a bee nor a knee.  Discuss"  :)
