Chinese teen reportedly sells kidney to buy Apple iPad 2

An excerpt from the article:

"I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it," Zheng told the Daily. "A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan."

So, on April 28, the high-schooler left his home in the Anhui province to have his kidney removed in the Hunan province of China, according to reports from both Shanghai Daily and the Global Times newspaper.

Zheng got his 20,000 yuan, which is equal to about $3,100, and returned home with a laptop and an iPad 2, according to a report from the BBC.

after hearing this his mother went to the police to track down the organ seller but they've been unable to find them

is this going too far to get technology or is it reasonable for people to sell their organs... especially as teens without their parents permission?

what the heck? That's so weird. I mean just to get an iPad really? This kid is really going to the extremes just for something that will probably be obsolote by december of this year because apple always comes out with more new "revolutionary" things

 That is a waste of money, you are better off with the laptop. I doubt there are as many 3g hotspots in china as in the u.s. So you probably cannot utilize the Ipad as much as you would want to

i think what the kid did was pretty dumb. all this for an iPad, and what sucks is that a new one will come out sooner or later. hopefully he doesn't sell any other organ

 He probably cannot even maximize the use of an ipad, due to the poor living conditions that he probably lives in. (Not that any of us really know how to truly maximize an apple product)

I could just never fathom the idea of taking something so precious like a part of your body and trading
it for something so mass-produced and readily avaliable like an ipad.

 Laugh at him and say he coulda sold his kidney to buy another kidney, so his body would not start deteieroating
