51 people die in Libya after drinking home made alcohol.

Health Minister Nouri Doghman said Monday that 51 people had died over the previous three days from drinking homemade alcohol containing poisonous methanol and that 330 others had been sickened. Most of the victims were in Tripoli; some were blinded, while others went into comas or suffered kidney failure. Libya bans the sale and consumption of alcohol, but homemade versions are available on the black market.

Libya should look at America's period of prohibition and learn from it. As bad as alcohol can be, organized crime originated partly from the illegal making, moving, and selling or alcohol. So maybe banning isn't the best solution for Libya due to leading to crime, and in this case, death.

This sort of thing actually happened in the Prohibition, with people who couldn't get access to speakeasies or upper-class parties. Dunno what drove these people to try making bathtub gin (link's kind of funky for me) but that's pretty exclusively an act born of desperation.

I hate alcoholic beverages anyway (not from experience but what has happened in our society). Its sad to hear about this, and I had no idea that Libya banned alcoholic beverages. Interesting.
And the question poll thing, is the alcohol made at my own house or did I get it from someone elses house? Definitely not trusting anyone else who is making it, thats for sure

In this case, I think that Libya should lift the ban of alcohol, because legal alcohol is much safer than homemade alcohol. People are dying and something needs to be done, if the people of Libya want alcohol so bad that they will attempt and fail to make it themselves then it should just be granted to them to save lives at least.

I do not agree with the ban of alcohol. If people want something bad enough, they are going to find a way to obtain it, legally or not.
Relating to the question poll, my uncle brews his own beer and bottles it. He doesn't sell it, he just gives free ones away to my other family members, like my dad. I don't drink, but I think it's cool that he has such an interesting hobby. If I did drink, I think it would be interesting to drink that considering it is so special and uniquely made each time. However, I would not drink homemade liquor from someone I didn't know and trust.
