Violence is rampant

However way you put it, violence has been heating up in the past 9 months. The bloodshed of humans has become increasingly more common and more deadly, in some sense of the word. Is this a concern that should be taken care of? Do we care less about each other than previously or have humans always been this way? How would we combat such violence?

Inspiring Others...for the wrong side?

As we mentioned in class in the pass weeks, it seems as if people are being inspired by these terrible events. We all know that none of us would be inspired by anything of the sort but what about those on the outskirts of society, metaphorically speaking. Those people are easily turned to do evil deeds. Are people being inspired by these events?

What will become of humanity if we do not care for each other anymore? Are we becoming more violent or is this just a rare anomaly of events clumped together?

If we do not start caring and showing more sympathy and compassion for each other the world will tear itself apart.

I dont really think there is anything we can do, we have become so desenseitized to violence now that to some it just comes natural.

I feel that with the ammount of news coverage these stories get they are literally making the people who did these acts famous and that inspires the people on the "outskirts" to do evil, for there shot at being noticed.

Humanity has a track record of violence. As long as we've had weapons- guns, blades, rocks, fists- we've been using them for right and wrong reasons. We are violent now, and we hear of all sorts of atrocities. Do you suppose that most of Europe knew what was going on during any of the Crusades? Did anyone know about the slaughter, the rape, the looting? No. All they knew was that a bunch of dudes buckled down, went into a mysterious land, and returned with tales of heroism.

Now? Now we /know/. We know that we as a race are capable of atrocities, that every single human being has potential for untold, heinous evil. The Nuremburg Trials were remarkable because so many of the top-ranking Nazi officials seemed so /normal/; they weren't monsters, or madmen, or cackling overlords. Instead, they were people who had motive and opportunity to do horrible things, and so they did.

But it's that same impulse that can just as easily lead people to boundless good as horrific evil. People will find themselves in a situation where they can help a fellow human being, even at great risk to themselves, and in a lot of cases they'll do it. The bad seems to weigh so much more than the good, but that's just how we're inclined to think.

The human race isn't devolving into violence. We're already there. It's just that we're so much more aware of it now.

I completely 100 percent agree with Ryan. In this day and age, we are aware of the terrible atrocities happening around the world, so it makes everything seem worse. It is just as bad as what happened hundreds of years ago (granted it is not the same exact events), we just know it is happening now.

And people didn't know things happened back then? So (hypothetical) if a town in China gets affected by some killer who kills 3 people in 1100 nobody knows?? Nobody was aware? Your telling me the town next door to said chinese town has no idea and that they won't tell anyone if they do know? Oh thats highly believeable. I think your counter argument to my "argument" is a bit flawed sir. Number one why must you always have the need to find some contradiction to whatever I say? And number two The crusades are nothing related to Mass shootings and bombings of which have no well known factional separation, Those were how you say.... a WAR?! And yes we may be the same as we've always been violence-wise but like I said in the post, all these events happening within a 9 month span are not normal no matter how you put it. Please tell me where else in the past 3 years has there been this many shootings in such a short amount of time with no war directly tied to it, keep in mind that Aurora, Sandy Hook, Sikh Temple and Boston are not the only events I'm referring to, if you don't know what I'm talking about go back in time and watch the news from July to Now and see if you find any other shootings in America with at least two deaths and not tied to war. I'm out...
