School Stabbing in Houston - Will We Ever Live in a Post-Racial America? How far have we truly come?

Sadly, I don't think that school violence will ever stop unless schools go to prison-like security measures and pat down every kid before they get to school. Even with that there would still be violence at school due to the agressive nature of some human beings.

It isn't so much as human's violent nature as it is their lack of control. To be honest, I believe that most of the school violence things nowadays are from people who are trying to get attention but do not think of the consequences.

I think there are measures to prevent school violence i would think you should take harsher measures like Riley has prepossessed at schools with a higher crime rate around them. But at schools with low crime rate around them i think a simple metal detection before a student enters the school should suffice.

If it wouldn't cause so much more debt to the economy I think that every school would have those security measures. I don't think that the government would even put metal detectors in schools unless they are near high crime rate cities.

I do not belive that we live in a society with little racism. racism is basicly a part of every persons life no matter what race you are other races with look down at you without even knowing you. School violence happens at most schools with a diverse selection of kids that attend there I'm not saying that violence is racially based but it can have an effect on how people act towards you. The Theory that videogames make you violent i belive are false. I think that if violent video games really made kids violent there would be way more violence in the world than there already is. Also, if kids copy video games we would all be poping pills in a dark room running from ghost (Pacman)

As unfortunate as it may be we will never be without racism. People will always think they are better, because no one wants to think they are inferior. Just ask yourself, would you want to be a better swimmer than Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte? Wouldn't you like to be a faster runner than Usain Bolt? Exactly. Everyone wants to be better than anyone, and if someone can't find a legitimate reason why they are better they just say something about race or background.

But I digress. Whenever people do any act of violence against each other when they are of different ethnic backgrounds, people automatically believe it is racism. Why? Because it was a famous reason in the past. Not saying there isn't racism now, however not EVERY violent action is because of racism.

I feel like back in the days of the civil rights movement there was way more violence than was let on or reported back in that time. I feel that today there wasn't as nearly as much violence than was back then, and like Mrs. Cav said, "news travels more quickly".

I think violence and racism is always going to exist in some sort of form, no matter how hard we try to get rid of it. Violence is a part of human nature. Our ancestors hunted and killed for survival, yes they didn't necessarily hunt humans but that violent trigger is still lying within all of us. In regards to racism, thats always going to exist until we find the point in which we are all truely "equal". I remember Mr. Thomas saying that in trying to mend bridges of segregation and slavery we've given up some of our rights. He used to joke that "blackpeoplemeet.com" is ok but the second "whitepeoplemeet.com" exists we're going to have issues and racial tension brewing. If thats what would really happen, will we as a people ever find a point when we're completely equal? Or are we always going to be living in fear of being labeled as racists?

I believe race is a huge role in contemporary teen conflicts because as sad as it as, racism is still somewhat prominent in our society, it may not be where we live but in other areas of the U.S. I feel like the level of school violence has overall stayed the same throughout the past years but media definitely contributes to the feeling that school violence is rising because of the intense coverage they have provided on school shootings and other violent incidents.

Today in our society we definitely hear more and more stories about school shootings but media has a role in that. We are constantly on social media sites, which allows word of these crimes to travel faster. Unfortunately, violence and racism will always exist within schools. Racism is just magnified within these schools, as there are masses of certain nationalities.
I believe certain video games contribute to youth violence today- teens are enveloped in a violent world that isn't a reality.

Racism will never end. No matter what we may say or what we may wish it will alwasy be there. It is something that we all experience at one point in our lives and it is something we will always have to live with especially teenagers. We are young and still trying to figure out who we are at this age but we are also very influenced by others around us and since we might not always have the most positive of thoughts tension is bound to rise.

It's sad when people lose patience with one another and resort to violence. I hope that the family of the victim (who was fatally stabbed) will recover from this nightmare. Also I hope that the school will have tighter security measures in case that there might be a revenge attack.

i feel like most people now don't have big problems with race, but there are also some people who are very ignorant and don't understand respect. i dont think video games has anything to do with violence because people understand that its just a game. If someone was playing a mario game, they're not ganna start going into sewers and collect coins in real life cause they know its just a game.
