  • According to the new prime minister, Bhutan's expression of 'gross national happiness' is overused and masks problems with corruption and low standards of living in the country.

  • The countrys pursuit of happiness economic development, the enviorment and people's psychological well-being was first proposed by Bhutans former king in the 1970s.

  • Due to a payment crisis last year, a severe shortage of Indian rupees, has lead the government to tighten import controls and sharply slow the economy and restricted foreign goods.
