Hello Drinky - Hello Kitty beers make a splash in Asia

Like many people approaching 40 years of age, it appears Hello Kitty is having a midlife crisis.

No, she hasnt run out and bought a Harley or had a steamy tryst with the plumber (sorry, Mario). Instead, the Japanese pop icon has engaged in a decidedly adults-only undertaking brewing her own beer.

Thats right; Hello Kitty beer is a thing, at least in Asia.

There are six Hello Kitty beers, which come in easy-drinking fruit flavors like peach, lemon-lime, passion fruit, and banana. They have about half the alcohol content of mainstream American beers - a Budweiser runs 5 percent alcohol-by-volume, where the Hello Kitty brews range from 2.3 percent to 2.8 percent.

I honestly find this quite comical. I mean, the Sanrio characters are moreso a part of Japanese merchandising than anything. I think this is a smart decision on Sanrio's part just because you could buy them as a collectible. Remember, Sanrio is cute, people like cute, people will buy it, and then you will make profit.

I can't really say anything bad because it is a brand that started in Japan and they can do whatever they want with it. But I will say is that they can be on accident making smaller kids in china and taiwan and my guess soon japan thnk it is ok or think that looks like a Hello Kitty drink might as well take a drink.

I understand that hello kitty is a kid icon, but its not a bad idea to sell beer cans with hello kitty on there for fun.

Hello Kitty I think is ment to be a kid icon, but i honestly think its more of an adult icon. I mean i see more 30 year olds driving around with Hello Kitty decked out cars than i see 4 year olds with Hello Kitty backpacks. and the fruity beer sounds just as inventive as chocolate doughnut beer so all power to them

I hope that the hello kitty beers stay in Asia because although it's common for their products to have cute cartoons on them, it wouldn't be okay here. Little kids might start drinking beer just because of the  cartoon on the can.

Hello Kitty is a kid icon, but some of it's fans are growing older and i don't think it's a bad idea to promote. Kids are influenced by alcohol comertials that come on all the time anyhow.

Ok everyone thinks they are trying to appeal to kids and persuade them to drink beer, but hellooooo someone who's legal (ie the parent) would have to buy it first THEN give it to them...I really doubt that would happen

I think they are more concerned about the parents buying it, putting it in the fridge, and then the kid grabbing it. But still, a good parent would be paying attention, and an even better parent would have put it in a place they could not even get to.

I think this is a cute idea. but also hello kitty has always been a kid symbol and some people may not be so happy about it
