So let me get this straight. Korea sticks an american in jail for no reason, and then uses him as a bargaining tool? That is really fowl play...

North Korea is an example of misery and despair. It's a tragic thing that an U.S. citizen is jailed for so long for something he probably never did. Praying for the man and his family.

I'm surprised that even North Korean authorities allowed for his mother to visit him in jail. His sentence is really unjust, he was sentenced to hard labor because it was believed he was plotting sedition but his business revolved around tourism? Also he is suffering from diabetes so this sentence is definitely causing his health to decline further.

This is a very sad and unjust story. North Korea is a frightening place and to be trapped there for an extended period of time would be terrible. Like Sheila said, I am also surprised they let the man have visitors, it seems to go against all their other policies.

I am really not surprised that North Korea did this because their leader is psycho and they have done stuff like this in the past.

This is so sad, he looks like a good guy and to imagine how he looks now esp. based on what the mom said it's all very disheartening, he doesn't deserve this...

OK here's my question why is this american citizen still in jail there why have we not done anything to get this man released and why don't we just tell US travelers to stay clear of North Korea they have made it clear Americans aren't welcome so stay away and let the country go it's own way.
