Man survives getting hanged, ordered to get hanged again

The condemned man, named as Alireza M, was found alive in a morgue after being hanged at a jail in the north-eastern city of Bojnord last week.

He is now being nursed to recovery in preparation for his repeat execution.

"The verdict was the death sentence, and it will be carried out once the man gets well again," an official said.

Human rights groups believe Iran is second only to China in the number of people it puts to death for crimes ranging from murder and rape to spying and drug-trafficking.

In a separate incident reported by Iranian media on Monday, relatives of a condemned murderer in the western province of Ilam tried to stop his execution at a prison by hurling a grenade.

Around 30 people were injured but the hanging went ahead.

Why are they nursing him back to recovery if they're just going to hang him again? It seems like a waste of time and money.

This story sounds just like what happened in the Sherlock Holmes movie, where the villain, Lord Blackwood, also survived a hanging. The authorities should pay attention when they execute a prisoner.

This seems ridiculous, I mean he's suffering to be brought back to health and then suffer before *hopefully* dying...ridiculous and seems extremely cruel...

That's cruel and unusual punishment, but sadly this isn't in the US, so it's legal there.

wait... so they nurse him back to health to kill him again??? why not just hang him again right away? Imagine going through that wait again. Thats horrible.
