Tensions rise in Vic police holding cells- Australia

Prisoners and police officers are unhappy that offenders are kept in police cells due to overcrowded jails. Up to 500 police a week are being taken off frontline duties to babysit prisoners in police cells. The Police Association of Victoria says fights have broken out between prisoners kept in police holding areas due to the cramped conditions, putting further pressure on officers.

What do you think should be done about the prisoners???

This article is about Australia...and they need to obviously improve their conditions as cramming all these people together isn't doing much good for anyone. Maybe reorganizing the cells, using the labor force they have to build larger barracks, something...

Maybe they could release some of the prisoners on parole if they have either been on good behavior or are imprisoned for minor offenses.

There needs to be improvement in the accomodations provided by prisons, not enough to particularly provide comfort to the prisoners, but just enough for the cells to be liveable and to not take officers off of police duty.

this really is an inefficient jail system. they need to make other arrangements in order to prevent over crowding, maybe build more facilities.
