China bans shark fin dishes at official banquets

So, China decided to place more bans on several of the more... extravagent... things in life. Things like foods with shark fin, cigarettes, and very fine wines and other alcoholic beverages. I think that the ban is an attempt to make the country more equal by prohibitting very expensive items. I also believe that this attempt is a very smart move because of the ban on cigarettes alone because of how expensive and harmful to users and people around them. The other prohibitions are just extra and really dont make too much sense.

More can be read here:

http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/09/world/asia/china-ban-shark-fin/index.html?hpt=ias_c2

What do you guys think about the prohibitions placed on the finer (and ultimately useless) things in life?

(Keep in mind foods like shark fin soup are ridiculously expensive)

I think that its good they placed a ban on shark fin soup. Shark fin soup promotes mafia-like groups who slaughter sharks in order to meet the demand for shark fin. The groups are drawn to this because each bowl of shark fin soup is around $100, so there is a lot of money in it. Hopefully this bad will help stop this slaughtering of sharks.

I agree with Zoe; the destruction of sharks for their fins is horrible, and hopefully this ban will help to prevent the senseless killing of sharks.

i agree as well because it is inhumane to slaughter sharks simply for soup. its pretty ridiculous

i totally agree with Zoe. things like that shouldn't be eaten no matter how extravagant it might be, its really inhumane and sad that they would do this to sharks.

I agree with Zoe too. Shark fin soup shouldn't even be offered, and the expensive of getting the soup is pretty ridiculous.
