china crusjhes down down on ivory trade

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/01/06/world/asia/china-ivory-stockpile/index.html?hpt=ias_c2

China destroyed 6.15 tons of ivory to go againest the trade of it.

This is the first time the goverment has destroyed any of its stockpile.

Do you think the trade of ivory should stoped immedietly?

I mean it's sort of a waste of the ivory that was already taken from the animals, but I know they are doing it to make a statement to poachers.

I think it should be stopped or at least put under more regulations. I do think it is awesome to have a country step up and make a statement as strong as this against the trade of ivory.

I agree with Riley, it definitely seems like a waste but if it gets the point across I guess it's worth it.

I really like that China has made a strong statement agaist the ivory trade by destroying their stockpile. I think it is a step in the right direction for the country. The ivory trade needs to stop because the animals they take ivory from are all in danger of extinction.

humans are so selfish, they want to take something from an animal or person and they don't even use it, they decide its a better idea to waste it then let the animals use it.

China did not take the ivory from the animals; they seized it from poachers and then discarded it to make a statement.

The trade should stop, or at least be heavily regulated to protect the animals

The underground ivory trade will never stop as long as there is demand for it. It's like drugs in South America. As long as there is a demand for it then people will continue to break the law to supply it.

There will always people who break the law to gain money, just like the people above said it's just like stoping drug trafficing.

i think they should stop the trade of ivory simply because a lot of the time they obtain the ivory illegally by poaching and i think the safety and protection of the animals are most important

It's good that China has finally taken action against ivory trading especially considering it is the world's largest ivory market. The fact that China has made a public stance against the act is great progress.

Its good that China has finally decided to do something but i think destroying that much ivory was a waste due to the fact that it was already taken from the animal
