Preventing HIV in western Kenya's Lake Victoria Region

"Women in Kenya are trying to end the practice of female traders having sex with local fishermen in order to secure a regular supply of fish"

A  program established by Victoria Institute for Research and Environmental Development International is providing women with their own boats to secure food supply in their homes without having to negotiate with the fisher men.

Do you think this is an effective way to deal with the issue?

I think it is a good start, but the women may still have some issues with the fishermen.

The program is definitely a step in the right direction. By allowing women more opportunity and giving them an incentive to better themselves its easier for them to make the right decisions.
