Do you think this will discourage people/families from visiting these parts of town? Will the surrounding business be effected? Will this promote drug use?
I think this will promote drug use because the vending machines are initially there to help people use heroine, thus saying its okay and encouraging its use.
I think putting these vending machines near heroin users is obviously going to encourage users to do more heroin. I also believe that families and people will stay away from those parts of town.
I personally think that they should not add these vending machines into Melbourne, Australia because it will not be a friendly environment for families because just as it states in the article itself, We are losing customers because mums are afraid to take their kids here because of all the drug addicts and used syringes, i think the amount of addicts that surround the city will increase and in a way it is promoting drug use, it most definitely is not discouraging it by placing these vending machines there, the surrounding businesses will be effected because all the addicts money will be going to those machines.
These heroin vending machines will most definitely promoting the use of heroin. I don't think that everyone should stay away from those areas though. Just because the machines are there, doesn't mean you have to get some heroin.
Leave the needle work for doctors and veterinarians. I think those parts of town have to be pretty nasty for the people to put those kind of vending machines there, the town itself would probably discourage people/families from visiting. I think it will definitely encourage people there to do drugs. I don't know if it will harm other businesses because I don't know of any business that makes money selling needles.
I think this is going to promote drug use. It will help decrease diseases spread through dirty needles but it will also be ruining business for surrounding shops and restaurants because more addicts will want to come to this area.
This only promotes Heroin within those streets. To have the convenience of the needles for Heroine use in a vending machine will skyrocket the use of this drug in the streets, including for kids as well.
This will obviously promote drug use, negatively effect surrounding businesses. But it will also help with the the sharing of needles and possibly help keep healthy people away from getting sucked into that life style because they will be aware of the surrounding threat.
It will definitely encourage drug use because vending machines are easily accessible for anyone. Families with children will leave these areas to prevent their children's access to drugs. The whole community as well as the businesses around this are will be affected by the change in environment.
I think that the placement of these "Heroine hot spots" will cause many people to stay away or even move away form these parts of town. This will affect families heavily because it promotes the use of drug use and will make it harder for current user to get their "fix" causing a rise in drug us, possibly crime, and a rise in deaths from drug use.
This is more of a public health issue rather than "promoting heroin use". We have similar services in america where addicts can get clean needles from the government. They're doing this to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and other blood-borne pathogens that can affect more people than just the heroin users. They are not promoting heroin use, they are trying to stop addicts from sharing dirty needles and spreading disease and infection. I mean if people are going to use heroin anyways might as well make they don't infect the general public with disease and give them clean syringes.
I think these vending machines will have a negative impact on the areas that use them. Many people may no longer visit these parts of Australia anymore in fear of having to deal with druggies. This will also obviously lead to a rise in drug use in the areas that use these vending machines to not only current users of heroin but may also create new users.

I do not believe that the decision to put these needle vending machine out in public is a very smart decision and will affect the community, surrounding businesses, and possibly even the state in which they would be distributed. I do completely understand why these machines would be issued and I understand it is for the health concern of others, however I do also feel like the government is in a way saying that they are okay with the use of heroine as long as it is safe. I do not think they should allow for these machines and instead help to stop heroine use all together.
Allowing this to happen would increase the use of drugs tremendously and would most likely raise the crime rate in that city. I do not think going through with this will better anyone.
This is an extremely touchy subject, because although peoples' initial reaction to this story would be "THIS IS TERRIBLE, HOW COULD THEY ADD VENDING MACHINES WITH NEEDLES IN THEM, IT'LL MAKE DRUG USE WORSE", upon closer inspection you'll find out that the real reason for these vending machines is to prevent the spread of disease through sharing needles. The fact of the matter is that regardless of whether you add vending machines or not, people will use heroin in these "heroin hot-spots". I think that overall, the effect of these vending machines will be positive rather than negative, and I don't think that it will increase drug use. I would only have a problem with the introduction of these machines if they are used in order to profit off of a community that is dependent on heroin. In a heroin hot-spot, new needles are always going to be needed, so a company could easy make money off of it. I think that if these vending machines are placed, they should be either free, or cheap enough to the point that the purpose of the machines is not to profit off of the people, because that would just be terrible. I don't personally advocate drug use, and I know that Heroin is an especially detrimental drug and can ruin peoples lives, but I don't think vending machines will worsen the problem. I think it would be great if clinics could be set up in these areas to help treat people who are hurt by Heroin use, but I understand that that might be hard, especially when heroin hot-spots are most likely areas that are poverty stricken.
