Facebook & Instagram crack down on gun sales on social networks-- Super Six+1

Facebook and its photo sharing subsidiary, Instagram, announced on Wednesday that it will delete posts offering to buy or sell guns without background checks.

Do you think Facebook was smart to do this? Why or why not? Do you think it will raise controversy among the users of Facebook and Instagram?

I think this is fine, facebook and instagram can do what they think is best for their company. The buying and selling of guns through facebook and instagram can portray a bad image on the sites, so its good to delete these posts.

I definitely think it will start controversy just because people like to argue about these things. Facebook and Instagram are entitled to do whatever they want. They even specified they're deleting posts without background checks which is just a safety precaution. I think its smart.

I think that Facebook is very smart in doing this. no one of importance on facebook will be mad at this. the only people that will be mad are people you don't want using your site.

I think this will create a big controversy but i do think it was a smart move for facebook to delete these from their sites because it can create a bad image.

Smart Choice by Facebook because it secures them and also prohibits the selling of firearms.

I think this a a great idea by Facebook because it will help with gun control which has been a major problem in America these days resulting in many teen deaths.

I think this is smart of them to do because it makes it clear that they don't want to be a website that is portrayed in a negative light and it discourages gun sales by making it harder for both the sellers and the buyers. I think a lot of people resort to selling things on social media because it is pretty simple, so by Facebook and Instagram eliminating this option I think it may make a difference in gun sales, just because they will be more difficult to do. I think that people will definitely be upset because this makes things more difficult on their part.

I think Facebook was smart to do this. Guns should not be bought over the internet without a proper background check. that's just stupid and dangerous if it falls into the wrong hands. I grew up around guns and know they are dangerous but people are even more. It shouldn't raise controversy, mainly because it doesn't really matter.

Yes I think Facebook and instagram are being smart here, and I can't really think of any backlash in this action.

I think this is a smart decision because it could have given them a bad reputation and it sends a message, because they are such big companies. Gun companies will be upset by this, but i think all in all it was a good decision by them.

i definitely think this is a good choice on behalf of Facebook and instagram because its always good to take precaution, definitely a smart decision. they are entitled to the way they'd like to run their site and what they want to show on their website.

I think that this is a smart move on their part and this will help with gun control. However I do think that this is going to start some controversy with people who do not agree with what they are doing.

I think this is a very smart decision on Facebook's behalf and believe it will help to stop the sales of firearms. It might bring about controversy but it will definitely bring more positive feedback than negative in my opinion.

I think this is fine for Facebook to do, and I don't think everyone will like this but if they are doing illegal things it does not matter

I agree that it is their choice and they should be free to do so. Also, it will created good images for Facebook as they are preventing illegal selling of guns.

I think it is their choice to make and it is a smart one. Because it is just another step for safety. I think it will start only little controvery that small enough that it would not matter.

While I do think this is to a certain extent a good idea, I disagree with the immediate deleting of posts because this is an invasion of privacy and free speech. I feel that the posters should be warned before anything else happens.

I believe this is a fantastic thing for Facebook to do, people will try to object to this but they shouldn't be doing anything illegal in the first place. Also, it makes them not able to be held responsible for illegal things involving guns on Instagram and Facebook.

i think it was smart to do this and will not cause controversy but will be praised. The websites were not made for gun sales. Although i do not promote gun sales, i can say that come on there is better websites for that than Insta and FB.. have they heard of craigslist.

I believe this is a smart choice. At least Facebook is showing concern about weapon control by taking down these posts.

I don't think it is going to cause any problems, if anything maybe help avoid problems.
