(((FERGALICIOUs))) New Drugs fast-tracked for severely ill patients

A scheme to fast-track innovative new medicines to patients without waiting years to get a license will be announced today by the government, which says it will give hope to patients and boost the pharmaceutical industry in the UK. Under the scheme, any severely ill patient with a life-threatening or deliberating condition will be able to get new drugs that are still in development, even if they're not within the strict eligibility parameters for a specific clinical trial.

Do you think this is safe/smart? Would you accept drugs that were still in development if you had a life threatening illness?

I think this could be dangerous because the drug could have bad side effects and not work. However, if you have a life threatening disease, then it might be worth a shot, if it works, but dying from trying a new drug is better than just dying from your disease and not doing anything.

I don't necessarily think it is smart because it could end up killing people, but if i had a life threatening condition i know i would accept experimental drugs. This will also save lives by providing medicine more quickly.

i dont think that its very smart because it could be dangerous not knowing the reaction your body is going to have but most people tend to be desperate when it comes to life threatening diseases and it could lead to saving them so i think its up to the person whos consuming them.

I agree with John. This is potentially dangerous for patients not in critical condition. However, since this only applies to patients in life threatening situations, I believe that it is a wise move. For lack of a better phrase, they really have nothing more to lose if they're on their way to dying. Hopefully, this will help in stopping deaths that could have been prevented with medicine that was unavailable.

I do not think this would be safe because many drugs that aren't fully tested to be safe end up actually being more dangerous to peoples health. If you give these drugs earlier to sick people it may hurt them more than to not take them. I personally would not take a drug that wasn't approved and look for other options.

I dont think that it is completely safe at all. But however if you have a life threatining condition and is not looking well for you it is completely the persons call to whether or not they want to take the risk. Especially if their life is at stake

There are only bad and worse choices here. It would certainly be dangerous to use the medicine that is still in development, but, as John said, it is totally worth giving it a shot rather than just waiting to die from disease. Since it is very risky, these drugs in development should only be used in critical, life-threatening conditions, and the patients should be fully aware of what kinds of bad side effects might occur.

I don't think this is safe at all, and it is indeed very dangerous. Although, we must realize that when people are desperate and may be dying, they are willing to risk their lives that may already be in danger. The results of using this unapproved drugs may also be positive too.

I don't think this is necessarily smart or safe because the drug, if still under development, it could have some really bad side affects. I'm not sure if I would be willing to take the drugs even if I had a life threatening disease. It could be worth a shot but then again, it could make the situation worse.

I don't think this is safe but if i had an incurable life- threatening disease i probably take a chance with a medicine that still in development.

I do not think it is very safe or smart, however desperate times call for desperate measure and i think if anyone was dying, they would take any option they can. If the medicines are available for somebody on their death bed, yes it is completely justified.
