More than 170 sharks were caught during a controversial cull policy in Western Australia following a spate of fatal attacks, figures showed on Wednesday, with 50 of the biggest ones destroyed. The policy, in place around popular west coast beaches, was given the green light in January after six fatal attacks in the past two years, angering conservationists who claim it flies in the face of international obligations to protect the great white shark.
I feel like as long as they don't kill all the sharks they capture it's fine but if they kill them off it's wrong and they should stop. Even if people lost lives that doesn't give a person the right to take the life of another being.
i think we should leave the sharks in their natural habitat, personally i like sharks and i know they are friendly unless you 1. threaten them 2. they notice your scared 3. you look like their food, if they are truly scared of more shark attacks they can always just remove the sharks of that area and place them in a different part of the ocean

I don't think they should kill the sharks i think if they really want to get rid of them they should relocate them somewhere else. I understand people were killed by them but I don't think its right to kill them.
I think that sharks should be left in their natural habitat unless they are truly threatening the lives of the people in the area. I don't mind sharks and I'm not necessarily afraid of them probably because I can't swim so I don't have to worry about being so far into the ocean waters to be in danger.
I think this is a really poor decision on the governments part. In recent years shark numbers have been on a decline which is not good because in the ocean they are the apex predator. if we eradicate the the apex predator there is going to be trouble all the way down the food chain and we are eventually going to have to deal with the repercussions. Killing these sharks did not make the water safer for swimmers it just killed innocent sharks. If people are really that worried about being attacked by sharks don't go into the water. We are invading their home not the other way around.
The sharks should be left in their natural habitat unless the attacks escalate. If things get worse they could be relocated, but definitely not killed.
I agree that sharks should be left alone. We should not be killing any kids of animals, even if they are not endangered ones. And sharks are endangered species. We should be protecting them instead of killing them.
I do not agree completely with the policy, i mean yeah shark attacks are bad but EXTREMELY RARE. Sharks are just miss understood creates. I have personally have had sharks swim under me while surfing and its best just not to panic and not to act stupid around them. If you flop around in panic because you saw a shark you will be attacked.
I don"t get why people are so afraid of sharks, the chances of them hurting people are very slim. 6 attacks in 2 years is not bad at all. I think this policy should be removed.
They should do anything to the sharks and just let them be. They rarely attack humans and they deserve to be in their natural habitat. Everyone watches too much of jaws.
WEEELLLL. I HATE SHARKS, however, it is obviously horrible to be killing so many animals on a basis of having no proof. Half of the sharks were most likely not involved in the instances so we cannot go around killing any shark we come across. We need to be aware and more critical when it comes to solving issues like this because this is just plain ignorance and very irresponsible of humans in general.
I personally am terrified of sharks but I believe that they should be left alone. If people stop bothering them in their natural habitat this is a much less chance anyone will get harmed.
I think the sharks should be left alone and left in their habitat. I agree with Daniel that sharks VERY misunderstood. Hollywood may have just gave them a bad rep.
I think it's ok to protect the beach goers from these dangerous sharks, as long as they don't overdo it. I think in this situation, they are over doing it, with, "The data released on Wednesday showed that 172 sharks were caught with 50 of the biggest ones, including one of 15 foot, destroyed. Ninety were tagged before being released." I think the death toll for these sharks is unnecessary. They should tag and release them more than to destroy them.
I hate sharks but i believe in the ecosystem and for it to function properly we cant keep removing "dangerous" animals for our safety when the ocean needs them to keep order.
I am not a fan of sharks at all but i do however feel like they should just leave the sharks alone and in their own habitat instead of capturing them and taking them away from their home.
