Brazilian Police Go On Strike Ahead of Football World Cup - Super Six

Central & South America: Thousands of police in at least 14 Brazilian states are holding a one-day strike over pay. The strike takes place less than a month before the beginning of the football World Cup, in another hiccup in preparations for the event. The industrial action affects several World Cup host cities, including Sao Paulo, where the tournament will begin on 12 June, and Rio de Janeiro. However, the authorities were quick to play down any risk of major disruption.

Do you think it was right of these police officers to protest at such an important time for the World Cup? Should they be punished, or should their requests be granted?

I do not think that it was right for the police to protest at this time, they could have picked a better time to protest. They should not be punished, maybe their request should be granted, just maybe.

Its not the time to protest especially so close to the world cup. Where people from all over the world will be there. but it will get their point across to be honest

With the entire world looking at your country it probably wasn't the best idea by the police officers. It definitely makes visitors coming for the world cup very hesitant and cautious about safety. I think they do probably deserve a higher pay but at a later time when things are less hectic in their country.

They should have picked a better time to organize the protest, it does get their point through but was more inappropriate than just effective.

They should have chosen a different time. I dont think they should be punished, whoever gave the order maybe should get punished.

I think because of the already high crime rates in Brazil and with all the tourists coming in to watch the world cup, police are needed in order to protect tourists from possible harm.

I think everyone should be paid fair, but it is the police's first job to protect the people no matter what

It definitely was not a smart choice to protest right at this moment. It would be effective but they should have considered how they would be looked at a nation.
