2 amigos: Spanish nurse's assistant leaves hospital after beating Ebola

A Spanish nurse's assistant who left the hospital Wednesday after beating Ebola said she was still weak but gave thanks to God and the health workers who cared for her that she was still alive. Looking frail but happy, Teresa Romero Ramos was greeted by cheers as she spoke to journalists, flanked by her husband, Javier Limon. Teresa said, "I don't know what went wrong. I don't even know if anything went wrong. All I know is that I hold no resentment, but if getting this disease serves a purpose to anyone, to better study the disease, to help find a cure, or if my blood helps cure another person, then here I am." Romero spent 30 days at the Carlos III Hospital in Madrid, the same hospital where she contracted the illness while helping to care for an infected missionary who had been brought back from West Africa.

Do you think we should thoroughly investigate her treatment and how she beat the disease?

Do you think her blood could be valuable at combating the disease?

In the documentary I saw awhile back, a blood transfusion from patients who survived Ebola was given to patients who had Ebola, and the transfusion cured a few of the people showing bad symptoms. I think its important to see why she got over the sickness while others didn't.

I agree with Mary, it is important to find out why she was able to recover and others were not. Maybe if this woman donated her blood it would be able to save several people.

I think its important to study her case, and just study Ebola in general. The disease is constantly mutating so getting recent samples is always helpful.

If she was treated in a differently than any other patient, then I think it would be a good idea to investigate her treatment. Any blood from an Ebola survivor is valuable at combating the disease. Whether the blood is given to patients through a transfusion (as Mary suggested), or tested until we can develop a vaccine, any blood we can obtain from a survivor would be valuable.

i think we should study her case because we should be able to learn from this and then help other people with this horrible disease.

Yes and no. There can be a chance that her blood somehow contains the key to unlocking whatever needs to be unlocked. But we have known about Ebola for a really long time. I don't know how important she really is aside from mimicking how she beat Ebola.

Yes, i do think we should thoroughly investigate her treatment. It is something great that there is someone who has beat Ebola and thats why we should take any information about what happened. yes, i think that her blood is valuable in combating the disease.

We should definitely learn from how she was cured to try and hold the disease from spreading. Its hard to say if the blood will for sure work, but we should definitely investigate it to see if it works.

I think we should investigate her case and figure out what caused her to overcome the disease. Every little bit of research is helpful to finding a cure and stopping all these deaths that are occuring because of Ebola. I do believe her blood could be vaulable to combating the desease.

Her case is very valuable in the race to find a cure/ vaccine for Ebola. It is crucial we find answers to this deadly virus. Any and all factoids on her case can be used to find why some people can fight off the virus, and others can not. We have already used blood from other patients to treat those infected with Ebola, and now she is another name we have on the list that we can use to help victims.

Her overcoming of ebola is very important to finding a way to stop the spread of Ebola. Any amount of research possible to reaching this goal can be useful.

I definitely believe that research should be done to find out how she was able to beat Ebola. If her blood were to help others it is worth a shot, but we have to take into mind that she as a human being should have to consent to the research as it pertains to her.

I agree that it is important to investigate her case because it's so important that we can get this disease under control and we should try anything to stop it.
