people are being turned away from having knee and his surgery because they don't meet the government financial threshold. They are being turned away from waiting lists even though they are in server pain. The wait list will have less people on it not because they are helping them but because they are not going to let any more people on it.
I don't believe people should be turned away from having surgery or any other medical treatment. If I'm in severe pain I'd hope that someone, especially a doctor, would tell me I HAVE to get surgery. Doctors should encourage their patients too get surgery if they absolutely need it and there was no other treatment option. Doctors turning away patients from surgery is horrible.
This is complicated because in simper situations, we would say if one doesn't not have enough money; then he cannot have what he wants/needs. But because this is a much more serious and critical situations we will just assume that the hospital is obligated to help a patient knowing he cant not pay. I don't know if they are or not im just saying we don't know. I understand how immoral it is for someone to do nothing when ones in desprested need of surgery but we also all believe that we should obey the laws above us so idk.
As badly as this sounds, I think that the govt isn't wrong to turn people away from the waiting list since the medical surgery, drugs, and people required costs a lot of money. If people can't meet the financial threshold, I think that they shouldn't just be able to receive surgery because then why would anyone pay the amount required. Of course, its horrible that people are suffering in pain, but the fact is, almost nothing is for free. Especially in the medical world, the prices are huge because everything costs something. Plus, there is only so much public-funded surgeries available; eventually, it'll be too hard to maintain the same standards.
It is very sad that people in pain are being turned away, maybe there should be some kind of fundraiser to help people who don't have the money for the surgery.
If there is already a waiting list of people with similar medical needs who have been waiting longer. There should be a sense of priority to those who can pay for their surgery and have been an a waiting list.
I think we should to try help people in need of medical care if they can't afford it, but at the same time it can be difficult in cases such as this one because surgeries are very expensive along with the drugs that come along with them and sometimes there isn't much we can do if people can't pay.
A big question is, do we look at this logically or do we look at this humanely? Should we be doing what is humane (not decline people from their needed surgeries), or do we need to do this from an objective stand point of view (do what is logical given the circumstances). We need to help these people, but at the same time we need to understand our limits.
No the government has no rights to do this to people who need knee surgery. Everyone should have a right to health care despite financial ability. Medicine should be one of the the things that has nothing to do with money and is completely government funded. Health is very important and it is not fair that only the rich can afford it, and it is denied to the poor. This is one of the problems Americans should work towards fixing.
