The Goths: Bolivia Overweight Security Forces: Crackdown Launched

Bolivia's security forces are registering overweight members in response to a complaint from President Morales that some of the people in the forces were out of shape. The Defense Minister of Bolivia asserts that soldiers must be prepared on a physical level as well as an intellectual level for some of the challenges they must face. Bolivia's security forces are registering weights before professional exams and forbidding members to wear their uniforms if they are out of shape as a way to promote fitness.

Do you think that it's going to help? Do you think we should employ a similar strategy here in the US?

I think that if they are incapable of doing their job they shouldn't be in security forces. And I think not letting them wear the uniform if they're out of shape will help because it'll promote what they do need to look like and what they need to be able to do.

In order to perform your duties as a police officer or fire fighter, you need to have a certain level of physicality. This new policy will help push security forces to be in better condition to perform their duties. The U.S. already uses a system to keep firefighters and police officers in shape. I personally wouldn't want someone incapable of saving me from a burning building, running in trying to rescue me. No offense, but the outcome for the both of us doesn't look so great. There is a certain mentality though that I feel local officers share. I feel our local forces are aware they need to be in shape to perform their duties and are prepared to deal with almost any situation that arises.

I think that workers in any job should be in the proper shape to fulfill their duty. I think that the US should have similar strategies due to our high obesity rate.

If they are not suited to be security guards they shouldn't be in the first place. Although some overweight security guards could be just as strong they should be sure that they are able to preform well at a physical level.

I actually think this is a great idea and a great way to promote fitness. If a person is in a position of authority, they will naturally have people looking up to them. Also, they are security. They need to be in shape to do their job, and if they aren't then get out of the uniform. I also think this would be a great idea for the United States of America, the most obese country in the world, because it would sent the message to children that being healthy is a good thing. It would also hopefully give Americans more incentive to get in shape.

I think this is a great idea to promote the necessity of proper fitness of those in security forces. Like Kayli had said, the US is probably the nation that should definitely implement this.
