100+ whales dead on New Zealand beach

Over 100 whales are found dead after being washed up on the beaches of New Zealand. Whales are frequently stuck there due to the protruding coastline, gently sloping beaches and system of currents. 140 trained volunteers raced to save them by rushing water down the beached whales. However, the scene resulted in 103 of 198 whales confirmed dead.

Do you think we could have done more to save the whales? Can there be anything done to prevent this from happening in the future?

We maybe could have done more to help this, such as get some help to push the whales back into the water. but overall theres not much we could do to prevent this. this is a natural occurrence in the world

Even though this is really saddening, I feel like humans already mess with the balance of nature far too much. Nature has its own unique system of operations and animals come and go everyday. It is unfortunate, but there is not much that can be done to stop things like this from happening.

I feel like it would be difficult to prevent the protruding shoreline because it's nature. But I think we could have prevented all the deaths by maybe bringing them to an aquarium.

Its a really sad story, maybe someone can some up with a device that uses sonar to scare off the whales toward more open seas rather than coming closer to the shore.

i think that there is not much we could do to save the whales other than push them back into the water but other than that there is nothing we could do

From what I read, it seems like people did everything they could to help these whales. As sad as the situation is, it is an incident that really couldn't be avoided due to the unforgiving ways of nature.

I dont really think much can be done to prevent this from happening again other than to put a net around the shore.

It is terrible what happened but there isn't much we can do about this situation

I don't think there was more we could have done to saved the whales.  It was unexpected, but I do think there is a way we can prevent it. Volunteers in the area should go every once in a while and check on the whales. They should monitor the amount of wales coming close to the shoreline.

There is not much we can do do to protect them because it is a natural cause. We cannot control nature.

Although this is a natural occurrence in the world we live in, 95 whales were still saved. These animals are extremely large and heavy thus not making it an easy feat.

I think that they could've tried harder to save the whales.
