psychedelic- government takeover

American International Group Inc. (AIG) was loaned $85 billion by the government so that their company would not have to declare bankruptcy. Thusly, the government now owns 80% of the company. The Federal Reserve says that it will bail company's out on a case-by-case basis, but not everyone will get the money they may need.

Should the government be bailing out these companies? Should they treat everyone equally in whether or not to give them money or be able to decide who's more important? Your thought's please.

If our country was in a stable economic place, I would think that bailing out companies would be important. Of course, if it was not in this state, they wouldn't need to be bailed out. At this point, I don't believe that the government should be doing this. Watching our economy collapse like a house of cards and our deficits rising astronomically is incredibly worriesome.

I don't think the government should do this. the government does not have $85 billion dollars to fork over to companies right now. This doesn't doesn't help the economic crisis in any way.

I think the reason the government bailed AIG out was because so many people would have been affected by it. You hear it a lot, that they're " too big to fail". This wasn't done for the sake of the company, but the people invested in it and their subsidiary companies.

I think that is not a good idea for the government to just
give a company $85 billion because of the current state
of our economy. But because AIG is such a huge company
and the last thing we need is for more people to be
loosing their houses and jobs and for another company to
completly crash and burn. So, I think in this case is was
definetly necessary but we really need to focus on how
NOT to almost go bankrupt.

US economy affects the world economy much greater than most of us think. I think the government is doing the right thing, because if they go bankcrupt, chances are there might be an international financial crisis

I found out more about this actually and I think that the government did what they had to do. Yes that is alot of money, money we don't seem to have but AIG in involved with alot of world banks. If AIG would have gone out, they all would have gone out. Then we would have had an international economic crisis happening.

i think the government did what it had to do, because AIG is a big company, and internationally too.
and it would be a terrible lost for people to lost their house and what not, during this time.

Our government isn't stupid and i think that they have realized the crisis we are facing, that is why they made the choice they did. i believe it was necessary, however there must be limitations to saving company's, such as AIG, they must be a large company and effect many people in order for the governemnt to bail them out. In this case AIG did need to be saved and i believe it was a smart choice by our government.

If the goverment didn't get involved it would cause a bigger crisis. Hoover had the same ideas about how the goverment shouldn't get involved, and that made him only hated for not doing anything about the economy. I think they did the right thing

the government should only offer bailouts if there is a threat of economic collapse. In this case there was.
