U.N.: Almost 10 million Ethiopians need food aid

In Ethiopia, almost 10 million people are in need of food aid, which is nearly double that of estimated in June. UN officials have said that the rise in people is do the fact that not everyone was accounted for in the last estimate. These people in Africa are starving and are in very serious need of aid, and if nothing is done, millions of lives could potentially be lost.

What do you believe should be done to aid these people, if anything?
How do you believe the United States should react? Is it our "business"?

I agree with Scott, every humanitarian problem is not solely the United State's problem, it is the world's problem. And the U.N. should provide food aid in a safe and non-detrimental way.

Agreed. I mean, i believe strongly that the U.S. should significantly help as well, but the rest of the world must also contribute.

It's not necessarily our business, but if we had the money we should help just because. The fact is.. we DON'T have the money! We need to take care of our country's economic crisis first, and then once we recover we can become the world's little helper.

If there is any way we as a country could help out we should. It is not right to turn our back to these people who are dying. Money is not the only way we can help. Through the government is not the only way we can help. We as individuals need to educate ourselves on what is really going on out there and find out how we can contribute. And like scott said, not just "us" in the US but broader.

But as we stand now, we must take into consideration or current economic situation. I guess we could say that we must meet our individualistic requirements inside our country before we can help out others.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for humanitarian aid, but I honestly do not think now is the right time.

i believe it is not solely the U.S.'s responsibility to hold the world upon our shoulders. However i do believe that considering we are one of the fattest, if not the fattest country in the world we could spare some food for starving people in Africa.... it would balance our obesity problem right?
