See ya New Zealand!

Figures show that about 47,200 people left New Zealand during the past year for Australia on permanent or long-term basis.
Many who move perceive that they and their families lives and futures are better off in Australia... with higher wages and more job opportunities. Weather also being a factor.
National Party finance spokesman Bill English said that the statistics were a long reminder that NZ had major fundamental economic issues before the current international crisis. NZ needed to grow so Zealanders could earn higher wages and have a better quality of life.

Is this a repeating pattern all over the world? What should NZ's government do to inspire people to stay there?

New Zealand is in some serious trouble. If they want people to come back then they need to create some new jobs and do everything they can to boost their economy.

I believe that people will continue to leave until they feel that they can make a decent living in their home country, i dont really think that it would matter what country they live in, if they couldnt make decent money and be happy. New Zealand would need to fix their economy and salaries, if that article tells the whole problem, in order to get people to stay in their homeland.

i think that the government needs to make more of an effort
to supply more jobs..there is nothing people can do about the
weather but i think they should maybe give insentive for people
to stay.

i dont think that new zealand should try and get more tourist coming there, its one of the few places in the world that hasnt been stomped all over by a bunch of fat tourist with hawaiin flower shirts. But, i definately think they should start creating more job oppurtunites for the people that live there.

i think it's definitely a good idea to try and get tourists to come. yes, they are annoying, but they boost the economy and create more jobs. there's nothing we can do if the people don't like the weather, though :)

i agree with zach, by boosting their economy and creating more job oppurtunities i believe this would create a greater insentive for epople to stay.
