The Lasting Impact of Broken Records?

This election broke...in some cases smashed...all sorts of election records and precedents...among others:

* Highest turnout since 1908
* Obviously, the first African-American president
* First Democratic Presidential candidate to win a majority since 1976
* First time Indiana and Virginia supported a Democratic POTUS candidate in 44 years
* Most $$ raised by a Presidential candidate ($700 million)
* Most $$ spent in an election ($5.3 billion by candidates, parties, and interest groups in Congressional & Presidential races; $2.4 billion of that on the POTUS race)
* Longest campaign (22 months)
* Highest TV viewership
* Most early voting
* Most $$ raised and spent on a social-issue proposition (Prop 8)

Which of these impacts are lasting and which are particular to this election?  (Will all those new voters who showed up this time keep voting? Will future candidates need to raise even more $$?  Will now-blue states stay blue or switch back to red?  Will campaigns start starting even earlier? Will we starte to see more and more viable female and/or minority candidates? etc!!!)

On if the blue states will stay blue, I guess it kinda just depends on what goes on over the next 4 years... But I think they will be more of a varity in canidates now that we have had an Aferican-American be elected as our president.

This election was amazing. I personally was so apathetic until Obama got involved because I thought with the lack of concern for the Constitution so often exhibited by the Bush administration that nothing could make it better. The results last night showed that people actually thought rather than just voted for what was popular or historical in their state. This election made me have alot less desire to go check out Europe after high school to see what it has to offer because I think that there are politicians, while not perfect, certainly have made an impact. To see the amount of young voters was awesome. And I think they are electrified. I'm excited.

If Obama does a good job and and our economy improves i don't believe so many people will turn out to vote next year. I believe the main reason so many peopple turned up at the poles this year was because they feared the course our economy was taking and they wanted to make sure that they got the change they were looking for.

i think the really reason for increase of voter turn out was the inlfuence of the mass media and their influence on viewers, i also believe that due to Obama's virtually flawless campaign also kept viewers intrested in the campaign. For a future voter increase i believe it would be necessary to obtain the same amount of mass media used in this election along with the same influence it had on the younger generation. I also believe that this abnormally mass amount of money possibley won't be seen in the next election, but it is possible, but would also have to have a virtually flawless campaign.

i think for the campaigns in the future they'll need to definatly raise close to the record breaking funds.. and as for the other records i thin k for a long while will remain the same..
