The Nook - Fires Ravage Orange County

This last weekend, firse swept across Yorba Linda, Brea, and Anaheim Hills. Many were evacuated, and an unlucky handful's houses were burned down.

Has this fire affected you in any way? Evacuated? Volunteered to help the evacuees? Do share your tale.

I was evacuated three times. Once at my work and once at my house. The third time happened this morning when my family and I were getting back from church and they had are street blocked off and said we could only walk. So we went onto the otherside and they told us we couldn't get to our house but we snuck around and we had to leave one of our cars. They didn't say anything about actually leaving and my parents don't want to leave again so apparently we're hanging out unless they say something.

question:if you were evacuated what did you take with you? why?

We did not evacuate, but our family and all the neighbors packed up for living, if needed. We took all our documents, of course. Clothes.
Later on Sunday we went to Valencia shelter to help the volunteers.
Our friends were evacuated, but they didn't know where to leave their dogs. I still don't know what they decided - maybe they stayed at the house.
It was a terrible weeekend, On Saturday we packed up for evacuation - on Sunday we had to unpack...and the air was sooo bad, and we don't have air conditioner at home...:(

My house is right off Valencia, so I was fine. A friend of mine lost his home including pets and cars which is really upsetting. A couple of friends live in the canyon, so I'm not sure what happened with them. But I hope they are all okay.

quite a few of my friends were evacuated
and im not gonna lie
it sucked knowing that all of my friends were in such a situation
while i sat at home and watched HOUSE

however after about an hour i couldnt sit still
so i went to the gym

and i was the only one there
it was empty
no music
no nothing
just the employees and myself

and for those of you that go to LA fitness
you know that thats pretty strange

My house was fine but I had a friend spend the night because he was evacuated at 4 in the morning. And I was suppose to go skydiving on Sunday but I couldn't because the 91 was closed.

I got evacutated twice, the first was a voluntary, then I went home around midnight and everything seemed safe. But then at 4 AM the cops came into our neighborhood and called for a mandatory evac. It was pretty intense...

surprisingly i didn't get evacuated, i had the yorba linda and anahiem fires come at me. but it was horrible outside of my house. i couldn't really breath at my house.

a lot of my friend got evacuated that go to ezpranza, and i know a family friend of my familys house got burnt down, and a couple of my friends houses got damaged. its heartbreaking.

i truly wish i couldve done something to help. they should have had volunteer centers or something. all i did was watch from a construction hill on bastanchury. it was a great view of the actual fire but really scary. if you walk on this one horse trail up in the neighborhoods of thoes new houses past valley view you can see all of carbon canyon completely burnt. it is crazy because the fire actually reached that horse trail right behind the peoples backyards. i wish we could like tip the fire men or something i wanna give them a big hug haha they did a great job of containing it

AND i was home alone so i had to call my mom and ask what shed like me to save if it came down to that point. ive never felt danger in my own home before it was an eye opener to how unprepared me and my family were

Mrs. Smith was telling us at break that she saw a story on the news about a couple of citizens who dropped some donuts by the fire station.  You can't give them a financial tip, but certainly anyone could do something like that (my suggestion would be to take store-bought food items rather than handmade ones, though)!  Or just stop by and say thank you - I'm sure they'd appreciate that, too!  I think it is amazing from how far away fire trucks came to provide assisance - firefighters are some pretty incredible folk!!

i live in Fullerton, but very close to Brea. i've turned on the air conditioner since
the the fire started. a lot of my friends who live in Placentia told me that they can't even breathe outside. i think we should offer some help to whose house was burned. it's really sad to lose a house in few minutes.

omg my del taco was right down the street from one of the fires. it's was complete mayhem in my store. everyone who got evacutated came to del taco. i could feel the heat and like taste the smoke when i put my hand out of the drive through window. i almost past out cause the smoke was so thick and my co-workers would keep the dumb window closed. my uncles house was in the middle of the fire but idk whether it was burned or not he never said. it was crazy

well im blessed to have not been involved with the fires as much as those around me, i live in placentia, close to the fires close enough to only see and smell the fires. the ash was horrible but not just for our city but the surrounding ones as well, i do know peoples whos homes have been evacuated but thankfully no one that lost there home. this has to be the most extream thing for our community but im glad they have the fires undercontrol for the most part.
