Who Would Jesus Vote For?

As a follow-up to our discussion last week about whether or not churches should engage in political action, you might check out this debate that was featured in the last issue of US News & World Report:

http://www.usnews.com/articles/opinion/2008/11/10/should-religious-leaders-endorse-from-the-pulpit.html

And, in a somewhat unrelated topic, I thought this was fascinating:

Your thoughts?!

while i think it is fine for a pastor to share his/her views because the first amendment grants him/her that right, i still oppose churches taking political stances because they are non-profit.

Preists have the right to support what they want, but when they include their ideals in church and religious tellings, thats when it has to stop

yeah obviously preists have opinions and political view, but due to their major influence on peoples lifes, i don't believe they should show their political views on the pulpit or in the church

I think the Mormon church (and various churches who donated money) to Prop 8 should lose their tax exempt status. Immediately. Preaching views that are in their religion is absolutely fine. But I don't think its okay to spread their personal political views. Just their religious views.

they should be able to say whatever they want. its not like they are brainwashing their church followers they have a mind of their own and can make their own choices and opinions but maybe the priest is smart and has a point on whoever or whatever he is talking about

well in away them pushing their ideas into the church is a form of brainwashing, it could be made to seem as a sin or something to that extent if its portrayed in the church like that, even if thats not the intent

The government stays out of the churches business, the church should stay out of the governments business.

I feel that a priest should be talking about GOD during church, not politics.

I agree. I feel it is fine for a pastor to dicsuss his views OUTSIDE of church. If a friend or member of the church asked him over dinner or something, I have no problem. But they should not donate money to a political cause.
