Big Three plead for $34 billion from Congress

handshake.gif
The CEOs of GM, Ford and Chrysler are back on Capitol Hill asking for loans, now asking for up to $34 billion in federal loans, much more than their previous request of $25 billion.  They are now pleading that they will run out of money to operate by the end of the year if they don't get this financial aid.

The CEOs drove fuel-efficient hybrids to Washington, instead of flying in on corporate jets like 2 weeks ago.  They also agreed to cut their yearly pay if the bail out happens.

Do you think Congress should just accept the bail out? Or should there be more compromises made first??

yes i absolutly think there should be more conditions to this agreement, i believe the "Big Three" should be focusing on hybrid cars for selling rather then producing huge gas guzzlers. It's ridiculous just because they met in washington again this time in hybrid cars they should receive $34 billion dollars? no way!

ahh, i was just talking about this last night. If these companies aren't bailed out and fail, that is 5 million people out of work... which would affect 20 million people. This seems like an open door to a depression. I thought I should probably buy a bike but then thought about how crazy people are and decided I should buy a gun.

Do you think if we were to fall into a depression we as a people would come together or turn against eachother in means of survival?

Those who are losing their houses, losing their businesses, and losing their retirement funds aren't really getting the bailout they deserve, so why should billion dollar corporations get the aid? A country is only a strong as it's consumer base, which is in dire shape right now.

i think there should definetly be more conditions to the agreeement
its accurate to assume that if the big three set a good example by producing energy efficient cars other companies would follow

however does anyone know the exact terms of the propsal aside from the above stated conditions?

chris there aren't really any details yet because there are so many people fighting for more conditions and others fighting to leave the agreement as is, so there are no real conditions on the bail out yet, they are still negotiating to find a compromise.

I think if there are conditions then it is something to be considered. But until then, I don't think we should bail them out.

they should be bailed out, but have their salaries cut to $100,000 and force them to make 80% of their vehicles hybrids. They should also have to make all of their non-hybrid vehicles achieve 20mpg or better, because pick-up trucks waste too much gas

Unless there are some serious compromises they shouldn't be bailed out. A massive pay cut for the CEOs is needed if they're going to be bailed out.

It really all depends on how much the "big three" are willing to cut their pay and if they are at the right amount then they should also negotiate.
