The Nook: China trying to clean up the web

China has started a month-long campaign to clean up the Web, trying to prevent the spread of porn on the internet in China. 19 major online portals and websites, including Google, have been accused of spreading obscene content.

Do you think the Chinese government is doing the right thing? Should the U.S. be following their example? Is porn a terrible thing?

I think porn should be a private matter, and not posted on the web.. But that's just me. I don't think it's terrible, but if you want it, buy a video. They should block maybe some hard porn web sites, but not google that's a little drastic

No no no no no. Censorship is the opposite of what the internet is about. (I'm looking at you websense).

Also no comment on the porn.

If this is what China wants to do in attempt to better their counry than so be it. But the US shouldn't feel like they should follow them and their example. I think it is a simple start to "clean up" the internet. But I don't think the government in America would be able to do this effectively.

and porn is disgusting.

if you dont like whats on the web and want to keep your children from it or whatever then dont use it. porn can be avoided on the internet its way easy. its not a big deal i dont think at least. but i dont think the united states should follow. we are a free country

i dont think the chinese are doing the right thing, they are only trying to further their grip on their people with more censorship. And as bad as some people see porn or other things of that nature, the money brought in by that industry is way to vast to shut it down. As sick as that may sound. The internet should be left the way it is.

Its not a bad idea. I think the US should follow up, since many young children are now experts on the computer, and it wouldnt take long for them to find out some obscene stuff.

hmm how do i say this without sounding like a total perv, well porn induces masturbation right? and masturbation is said to releive stress and you are less likely to go out and have sex and potentially get a disease or pregnant or whatever. and you can put block up things on your computer like safe searches so whatever who cares?

I think its a futile fight to try to clean the internet up. For a personal issue like this I don't think it's up to anyone else to determine what you should or shouldn't be putting in your head.

trying to completely get rid of the porn online will be impossible. People are always gonna find away around. That's like saying lets get rid of every single speck of drugs on El Dorado campus... It's not gonna happen...

wooo..how sad to say that..but very true. finding porn just like part of the human nature...though lust is one of the 7 sins, people still cannot get rid of it...like what i say, naturalism.
