Ethiopia, one of the worlds top aid recipients, has just passed a bill imposing tight restrictions on aid agencies. Foreign organizations as well as local groups, which receive over 10% of their funding from foreign sources, are prohibited from offering aid that engages in 5 sorts of activities:
The advancement of human and democratic rights The promotion of equality between peoples, sexes or religions
Campaigning for children's rights or the rights of the disabled Conflict resolution and reconciliation Work on criminal justice issues
This is believed to be an attempt by the ruling party to banish all those it sees as a threat to its tight grip of power.
Do you think anything could be done about this situation? If so, what?
This is unfortunate but there isn't a lot we could do to change these new rules. Unless you took out the current ruling party, but that would need military involvement.

I dont think we can realy do much to change this... and we aren't in the postition to send military over there to try and change it. Its their way, and it always has been, so i feel we should just let them be for right now. At this point, you can't change much.
i agree that there's nit much we can do, but this is so sad i feel so bad for the people who need this aid but will never get it because of their country's leaders need to control everything.
