Only YOU can prevent lung cancer...

With all of the evidence that's out there, it's truly astonishing that people still start smoking...especially people in your age demographic, who have known about the dangers and risks (to say nothing of the FINANCIAL COST) of smoking for YOUR ENTIRE LIVES.

What more needs to be done to discourage teen smoking??

nothing.. almost everyone knows that smoking will most definately kill you.
teenagers do it to feel cool or older but what happens is they start to be cool and then they get totally addicted and that sucks. but i think it mostly comes from the parenting if your parent smokes or doesnt care if you do then that might provoke a teen to do it.

no teens still dont take it seriously enough. i lecture my friends who do smoke so much im probably very annoying. it is the most pointless thing to do that gets you that much closer to death and cancer. maybe if their parents like scared them out of it by taking them to a doctor and having him/her fake a tumor in a xray lol seriously it drives me crazy. we even had that speaker come with the hole in her throat and that didnt even make them stop

id also like to add how older generations are addicted because when they were young and started smoking the dangers werent clear and they didnt know it was deadly. but now that kids still do it is ridiculous and just makes them look ignorant.

Not much can be done to discourage smoking. All the facts are out there and it's just up to the individual. As long as there are cigarettes out there, there are going to be smokers.

Or if the parent is way too strict, and the rebellious tiger inside the teen growls out, rebels, greases back his hair, and whips out an unfiltered cigarette.

i dunno what more can be done. I, at what ive gone through at school, have seen countless things describing the afftect that it can have on you. It more of a parenting thing or social outlash when teens smoke.

i am a ferm believer in everything in moderation, but its hard to take something so addicting in moderation. Its not only that smoking is considered "cool" but also many societys and cultures have smoked for centuries, however with the new chemicals that we now put into cigarettes it is just worsening our health. I don't think there should be anything done to prevent or discourage teen smoking, if teenagers want to be 'cool' and 'fit in' by smoking and worsening their health, then so be it. I don't think anything will be done by the cigarette comapnys anyways because of the large teenage consumers.

I think the government really needs to limit where people can smoke. Only in their cars and at home. They shouldn't be allowed to smoke anywhere in public, it's a public safety hazard. It they did this, and forced kids(even though they would still do it in public, because they're rebels, because they're cool) to smoke in places that are lees 'cool', that may help, but not a whole lot. Then they could get busted for smoking out in public, and that may turn the trend around.

what about the smoking-only places at Disneyland?

I don't mind them really, but it does smell. It's private property made for public use. But do you think they could ban the smoking?

That might work for some kids. But I could also see the doctors getting in trouble for something like that.

well thats good to hear. But it only takes one time to ruin someone's life. I hope they do keep their word.

But what if after they got so scared, they went outside to have a smoke afterwards. That would be pretty ironic...
