Homeless woman's plea to Obama draws flood of support

Do you think that Obama's party will go out of their way to help the women that lost everything?

absolutely not. we should responsible with the funds we have, we can't give it to one person. Its not like she is only homeless person in the USA. While her situation must be miserable, its not like is the only person feeling that sort of pain. This would set a terrible precedent for future cases like this, then every homeless unemployed person is going to be begging for the same sort of help.

I don't think the Obama's party is going to only help her personally, but instead, he's going to try to do as much as he can to help everyone in her situation at the same time.  I'm glad she went out of her way to tell Obama her situation though because now since she's being discussed about all over the news, people are becoming aware that yes, homelessness and poverty does exist.

I dont think it is possible for im to help EVERYONE i need. I mean how many people are homeless, and not only that, how many people need help right now? There are so many that it would be inpossible, but at the same time it's great to help as many as you can, whenever you have the chance.

I think if Obama wants to help, he should try to help everyone in a situation similar to hers. He can't just give her support and leave everyone else that is homeless out there on the streets. It is good that she is getting publicity though so awareness is raised about the poverty that does exist in America because a lot of people are ignorant of it or choose to ignore it when we should be doing more.

From what I understand(and please tell me if I'm wrong), but I believe the majority of the newest multi-billion dollar stimulus plan is going towards the ailing economy and the horrible housing market. I think it's a set up by the Democratic Party to make the problem seem even MORE apparent than it already is, and as a way to convince policymakers to throw even More money towards it. We can't just pump money into the housing market alone...it has to start elsewhere, and that should be the main purpose, if it isn't already. The thing is, that many people have it worse than she does, who need it more desperately. So for anyone to perceive this woman as 'the face of the economic crisis,' seems selective and slightly biased.

So to answer the question, my answer would be no. I think that the money will end up going to the middle class who have not lost it all first, (in an attempt to make sure they're stable and keep things from getting worse), before it trickles down to the less fortunate ones.

"Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer."- Common Sense by Thomas Paine

I believe that this statement is one of the best pieces of knowledge to ever be spread to the masses. I mean you can look at any situation that our government dips it''s hands into and it applies. Welfare funds tens of thousands of drug addicts and their habits. Unemployment gives out more money then what full time minimum paying worker receives giving no incentive to return to work. Society has become addicted to never having to fall on it's face and so turns to big brother to save it. Ironically it's the government that usually causes the meltdown of societies.

"He finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest." -Common Sense by Thomas Paine

I believe that a society when it falters has the resources to pick itself up and must rather then forcing the government which to gather more tools of power must draw upon our rights and our own fortunes to continue it's own. To pay for all this stimulus we will be taxed even higher then we are now and to continue these programs to keep others employed we will be subjected to more regulations and big brother dependance.

The more protection we ask for the more we must give up to fund the protection. This economic crisis is a sad things indeed but it should be another learning experience for us all. That when our greed extends past our means of living we are doomed to fall. Debt is only acceptable when it is within your means to clear it in a timely manner. A new house might be great to have but if your truly can not afford it then you must have the sense to not get it. This crisis is caused by banks making bad loans under pressure from the government and people living beyond their means by accepting these loans.

To learn from all this you must fail. That is why they say life is not fair; life gives you all the opportunity in the world but with no rule book or manual to it. You must learn to fail and get the lesson out of it if you are to succeed. This lady was living beyond her means if she can within a matter of a few months loose her house and now have to sleep with her son in her car. I say she is the face of ignorance and deserves nothing more then a pat on a back and directions to a job training program.

The Democratic party is a political party just like the Republican party and will only strive to keep there voter base and/or expand it. If she gets government aid she will begin to thank the democratic party for helping her when realistically she should have learned from all those who lived through the depression. Get what you can afford, save what you can, and learn from the past. Don't get me wrong there are honest people being screwed in this whole thing but the wiser man is still living comfortably.

Now to take the edge off all this blunt talk:

no the obama party won't go out of their way and help the women who lost everything.
she's not the ONLY one SUFFERING due to the economy situation right now. plenty of others are losing their jobs and home. the government is doing their best to help US get back to her feet. It wouldn't be fair for her to receieve special help when other families are suffering too.
& yes it's nice that this lady is recieving media attention...through this people who can help, can see many are in need.

no President Obama will most likely not go out of his way just to help one women who is now homeless, while there are probably thousands of people who are now homeless due to the economy. If he does help just one person many will complain that it is not fair, whick it isn't. It would be showing that  this lady is more important then other people who are being affected by the economy, which i dont think would be a good idea.

Rather than the Democratic Party as a whole (or the stimulus package!) providing individual help to this woman, local individuals provided assistance to her (and to another speaker at the event) after seeing coverage of the townhall.

Given that, should there be more forums made available for people to publicize their stories and their need in case there are philanthropists willing and able to help?

See the Daily Show's take on the Florida townhall (hilarious!, of course) here:
